I think I've made a serious mistake (battery)

My new 80 wasn't starting, the batteries sounded very flat so I took them out and put the Optimas from my 60 in their place. The batteries on a 60 are lined up (when looking at the engine from the front) +-/+- and I dodn't expect the 80 to be different so, when I came to connect what I thought was the last post there was a stunning amount of arcing and the post melted.

It seems that the 80 batteries are aligned -+/+- unless something else went horribly wrong?

To say I'm annoyed with myself is a massive understatement.

Looks like I'll be buying three new Numax CVX-X's then.

:(

Yip, you got the positives and negatives mixed up  The 80 uses "handed" batteries as you've discovered. Hopefully no damage beyond the batteries.

It was quite the end to a pleasant day of spannering, I can tell you

What are the chances of something catastrophic having happened elsewhere?
