Just sorting insurance and Flux have come in at about 600 including the usual additions like breakdown , 250 excess and legal cover.

Swift cover is 300 but without the extras and a 750 excess, and all the other companies somewhere in between starting at 490 and going over 2000.

Question is: Is the Swift cover one worth it? Lots cheaper and a high excess but is just a "normal" insurer rather than a 4x4 specialist so is there any pros and cons?
I will be doing mods and waiting to hear from Swift cover if this is allowed as Flux has no problems with this. Flux did try to match it but only came down 50.

Have you tried Chris Knott? They were the best all round deal when I renewed recently, they should also give a discount to our club members. They were fine with mods as well, I believe the underwriter was 'Highways' who aren't shy to insuring modified motors, I've had many policies underwritten by them over the years.

Good luck, I know it's a real chore getting the correct cover at a fair price.

X2 on what scott says, my renewal last week was £287, tried flux, we'll have to phone you back they said, have they? have they ****

x3 for Chris Knott. Consistently the cheapest quote I've had and no issues with modifications.

Right then, Chris Knott.
Called them and after only asking the questions, name, and type of vehicle and predicted use i was told they can't insure me.
The reason is that a modified 4x4 (any mods at all) that will be used for greenlaning can only be insured as a second vehicle not a main one.
If I don't do greenlaning then they could but without my ncb as it is a specialist vehicle policy.
I did appeal to them about rights of way and that they are highways but no joy. Only people previously insured with them can continue.

this insurance business is getting more and more convoluted!!

Sounds like a Highways policy.

Admiral Multi car policy for me! £200!

Looks like it going to be Flux as the greenlaning and mods is needed.

Checked with a couple of others and with these extras they are all coming in about the same so will stick with what i know.

I had my defender with flux, just rang them to change it over to the 80 and got a price of 1100 quid. WHAT?! I'm 40, have no endorsements, a NCB if 20 plus years, vehicle is garaged in a safe area. WTF is that about?
