That was my thought ....but they did make IFS 100's with the 12v engine ....

Ok let's see if we can put the 100 vs 105 thing to bed once and for all.

The model number is HDJ100R- GNMEX
Engine No. 1HD-T (now with added cooler)
Frame Number JT711TJA1009000060
Trans/Axle H151F A04A
Plant A11

It has IFS and 5 speed Manual Trans.

So I'm guessing it is a 100 all be it an unusual one. It is Africa so normal rules may not apply..

Looking forward to a conclusion..

We need a pic of the underneath of this truck, it's a 105!

What would you like a picture of, I have a pit in my garage happy to oblige. I'd also like to know.. I think it's just a special rugged not too complicated version for the African market. It's quite an early one 1998 as well.

Maybe it was a trial run for the 105?

The GNMEX part is interesting for sure. Looks like you have a bit of a rare thing there.

That is specified for "General Countries", a VX with LU back door, curb weight 2790 kg, max 3260kg, length 4890 mm (+bars/spares), width 1940 mm, height 1920 + rails/rack, 118 kW / 360 Nm, with a max speed of 150 km/h. Could be had with grille guard, rear mounted spare wheel, electric winch, 16" wheels with either 235/85 or 275/70.

An intercooler made for a 3-4 times smaller volume engine sounds a bit puny, no?

Edit:
Forgot to say: Stdrd tyres - 7.5R16.
Length: Add 305mm for spare (275/70) and 50mm for winch, giving 5.245 m
Height: Add 230mm for factory rack, giving 2.15 m, + add for bigger tyres than 7.5/16 (275/70 is actually lower)

I know what you mean about the cooler but I don't think it was OEM

Yep. That I/C looks like after market, and may be bigger than OE hdj100 I/C.
Added some on the specs above.

Here's a pic of the under wheel arch pipework.

So it's a bit over a week since the cooler was fitted and I can definitely feel the difference. It pulls much better from low revs and just feels like a much smoother power delivery.

I'm pretty happy with the results, the question is

Should I go to the local diesel specialists here in Harare and have the engine/fuel pump/boost adjusted

Or just leave it as is?

So it's just over a year since I had the intercooler fitted and I still haven't been to the diesel specialist to have the engine tuned/adjusted to make the best of the IC.

Maybe I'll get time this trip...

Will it do any harm running it with an IC and not having the engine adjusted to suit the extra air?

If anything it will run a little leaner giving better mpg and "tuning the pump" in this case simply means turning the fuel up a notch for a smidgen more power = why bother if it runs well as is .

Great,

I'm happy with the current performance so as long as I'm not doing any harm by running a bit leaner then I'll leave it be. I've got this if I want power ..

Cheers
