Lack of power to front locker

I appear to have no power going to the front locker. As a non electrical person with a meter how can I check where the fault lies? How should the meter be connected to the plug which goes into the top of the actuator to check for power and how to check for a broken wire between the actuator and the ECU. Assistance would be appreciated
