time to continue the trip report

- it continued onto Yorkshire dales, then peak district, then North York moors, then back to Dales for more lane and Tour de France spectating
sooo..
the next morning we continued along the Old Coach Road 1km from our camp and met Gav, Jon, Gary, Karl & Ray packing up and having breakfast. There group was big enough already. So after chatting, we contined solo in our Hilux
Meeting Fidge
Ray turns up
Hilux and Landcruiser
We headed south to Grasmere-Langdale-Hawkshead area and did some lanes there
Then moved onto Parkamoor
approaching first tricky bit, i needed to use rear locker on Wugg last time i was here, so was interested to see how the Hilux would cope with TRC
first attempt i was stopped with spinning wheels, so reversed a bit and took a different line

and made progress
and up
Then the rock slab shortly after
no problems, straight up
another rockstep
Then met the local tour group, luckily in a good place for them to reverse and park up

we had a coffee and talked to them a while
steamer on coniston
we then did a couple more lanes, including the nice long coast one where you can see Isle of Man
then back to the quarries to set up camp, and went for a 5 mile walk taking in a local pub
jet settles down
tethered to fence and her camping bed
wire to smoke off midges and warm us up
jet had a visit to the RTT the next morning
next day, we drove some more lanes over to little langdale, then down to Grizedale where we mountain biked for a couple hours on the purpose built singletrack, then drove the Grizedale fox lane, before taking ferry to Windemere
then headed to Gatesgarth for evening camp
found evidence "Fidge" had been here the night before, Jet now has the remains of the chicken toy!
beautifull morning the next day
went for a morning hike to look at the old quarry/mines
Then drove an hour or so to Hawes in the Yorkshire dales, and started seeing Tour de France stuff
drove a nice lane with a ford, then nice rocky climb
did some more lanes over moors, then onto a lane that was TRO until recently, and dropped down towards Harrogate
this is a lane that I used to mountain bike many times, and has recently been changed from Bridleway to Byway
A few days were then spent in Sheffield Area, and I met up with David and Wugg for a day in peaks - see other report,
at the end of the week we headed north again to North York Moors for a morning laning
navigator!
some easy lanes, including Rudland Rigg
then down rocksteps at end of Rudland Rig
pausing for a photo
and then back across to the Dales, near Reeth
a washed out lane....
...left its mark on the plastic arch...
camped for night near Hawrd by a lane
then based ourselves in a campsite and cycled to Cote du Cray to watch stage 1 of TDF and caravan pass
Team Sky car
King of mountains points leader at moment
later in day we took a shortcut back over a dales lane to bypass busy roads, down to middlesmoor
and following day, near Harrogate, put Jet in her bike chariot again and towed her another 12km on closed roads to Blubberhouses moor to watch tour stage 2
peleton approaches
spectators all over
and thats it folks
Hilux did well, but not quite as capable as the 95-series was, the rear-locker is a bit easier to use on tricky stuff - until i understand the Traction control better anyway, and the 95-series had better axle articulation
BUT when i drove LC on the same lakes lanes i had dropped tyre pressures to 25ish PSI, this time on Hilux i kept the tyres at 35PSI
so maybe comparison isn't so fair

but I am enjoying the increased power in the D4D hilux, much more storage space to get bikes in and kit etc, and cruise control
