Last underside question - 2006 LC5 129k

Really appreciate the opinions. Different vehicle - 2006 LC5 129k - 1 owner, FSH, easy garaged life apparently mint on top but not so sure on the underside again. Would you call this clean(ish)? Thanks!

Looks standard fare for its year, is it a prospective purchase?. Can't tell too well with all the muck on it.
You need to be looking at the inner sills and also if the back section of the chassis is full of mud/dirt.

If its practical get it to a specialist like Freedom 4X4 to get a report.

When I was looking for a 120 the worst I saw underneath was an 04 with full Toyota service history and 40 k miles one owner, it was as rusty as a pier underneath and really needed restoring..

Like Andy says, Difficult to asses with the mud and crap on it.. The Bump stops don't look Brilliant, Cant make out if its Mud or they on the point of rotting out, Needs a good Power wash to get a better picture.........Depends on what money he wants for it, weather its worth the work or not... You know the sad thing here is that had that motor been given a little sensible annual after winter care, ie washing the crud, and the accumulated salt trapped in said crud, off around April/May when the salt is finally gone from the roads, that underside would be only half as bad as it is, it looks to me like it's never seen an underbody wash from new and i hate that sort of ignorance/neglect.

It's no worse than many others out there, but like the others i'd reserve judgement on just how bad it is until it's cleaned properly.

That one @ Chesterfield was noting underbody corrosion on the MOT history as long ago as 2014.

What is it with car owners these days, all about image or what? the topside cleaned regularly even if they get some dodgy car wash to do it, the inside kept clean, but never a though to whats happening underneath, some people never even raise the bonnet to check the oil level.

And what is it about car buyers these days, what easier vehicle is there to check underneath than a blinking Landcruiser, it's the first place a i look before opening a door or lifting the bonnet, many times after 30 seconds i've slid back out from underneath and cleared off back home again cos i've seen enough to walk away.

Its a good point. We have a local car wash that takes the vehicle along a track and washes the underside. Costs a few quid more but worth it. Dealers especially will spruce up the vehicle visually but the underside may tell another story. Buyer beware is the motto.

Only time I jack mine up is when I have to remove a wheel , and I have 265/70/17 BFG ko2 tyres on so it lifts the 120 up 13mm more , even when I grease the prop shafts I just get under with out jacking it up , I just move it back of forward a few inches to line up the grease nipples between the front and rear its a lot quicker than jacking it up and putting it on 4 axle stands and having to jack it up again and to remove the stands ,

Mine's up on 4 ramps at this very moment, 2 higher than normal at the front and 2 standard at the back, makes that annual rustproofing routine both easy and safe.
Soon as i've finished me cheese on toast lunch it's ACF50 spraytime.

Thanks for the comments all. This should be interesting - shared my concerns with dealer this morning. Vehicle just come back from Toyota getting serviced and MOT'd and their comment is that it is "solid as a rock" and one of the best they've seen! What's more they are happy to put it in writing for me and the Toyota service engineer who did the work is calling me tomorrow to talk through concern. I'll make sure my caller display is on and check the number then

Its a messy job whatever you're applying, this is an annual top up not a start from scratch.

I lie on sheet of rubber and cover the ground where i'm spraying with large cardborad sheets, if you have a large room sized polythene dust cover suggest you put that down and then drive the vehicle onto it whatever method you use for raising the motor.
I did the wheelarch areas yesterday whilst each wheel was off when i serviced the brakes, easier with the wheels off.

Its also easier with the wheels off to pop out those rubber bungs so you can feed cavity wax or whather you prefer inside the box sections, i also used several large aerosols of Bilt Hambers cavity wax insde the chassis and cross members door etc via the realy long probes that come with BH cavity waxes.

I lie underneath and spray outwards covering the chassis etc from the inside, same with the back axle and rear section.
Then lie on the rubber and spray from outsides covering the other halves of the chassis and suspension and axles, paying particular attention to those inner sills between chassis and side steps.

Have no fear two spaniels will come and help (yeah right) so every possibility they'll be joining me in the shower later.

Don't ask me how but i've ended up with 3 x 4 litre bottles of ACF50, and appear to have more transmission oil in stcok than the local motor factor...this is the result of buying when the bargains pop up.

That sounds like salesman bull to me, but you won't know for sure till you get under yourself and inspect it closely, as said its at the high end of pricing for a fairly high mileage 2006 LC5, especially if its regd after March 23rd so triggering £555 VED, so it wants to be a good one.

Yeah - thinking same - only went for it as tired of searching, advertised as mint FSH etc. Don't really know what I'm looking for under a car (this is the first one I've bought) so been asking around with the pics. Be interesting to see if a Toyota headed letter from a main dealer describes this as "mint" and "solid" though. Oh, and it's a May 2006 reg of course :/

Yeah - thinking same - only went for it as tired of searching, advertised as mint FSH etc. Don't really know what I'm looking for under a car (this is the first one I've bought) so been asking around with the pics. Nipped in to see that LC4 at Chesterfield as I was conveniently about 10 mins away.
Not a good start as I saw it was supplied by Toyota Inverness and it didn't disappoint.

All in all its seen some salt, as can be seen from the state of the copper brake pipe.
Plenty of matt / satin black after it had seen the pressure washer.

just goes to show, cant judge anything from photo's, that said, I couldn't make a hole in it anywhere, but it wasn't far off. If I'd been looking for myself I'd have been there 15 sec.
