LJ70 Land Cruiser 1988 Build

Ha, spoke to Paul on Thursday and all the work is done apart from a few issues with the idle speed that they are scratching their heads on. Think it will be wiring but who knows, should have it back for winter!
Bought some dual beam round hid headlight units from aus that are fantastic, need to get them installed along with a garage full of bits I've been collecting since may.

Flingers clossed for you bud - I'd be bouncing off the walls by now

Oi... Its all very well recommending folk for recovering steering wheels - you need to be telling us whats going on with this little lot Si!!! :p

i cannot believe west coast have had your truck since May.

I had forgotten I had a land cruiser, it's a dim and distant past!! It's still at west coast, all fitted but they cannot get the thing to run / idle correctly. They had an auto electrician in last week to help out but waiting to find out how it's gone.... May have to look at an alternative place to finish it off :-(

Is it just an idle problem, or under load as well?

Any more of a description of symptoms from them? I guess they know the basics but if they had to get a sparky in aren't too clued up on EFI systems.

Next was to fit some rock sliders as the original steps had rotted and where no use apart from gathering rust.

Do you have more pictures of how the rock sliders are attached to frame around the exhaust? Did you lift the exhaust pipe up a bit? I planning make rock sliders for my own LJ70.

Actually, we're still waiting to see if Si actually got his truck back with the new motor in it...

C'mon Si, let us know you've been out having so much fun in it you've forgotten to let us all know...

Pleeeeeaaaaassssseeeee...

Hopefully the 70 is back with you now.

I'm sure I saw it in the WC yard on the 12th Dec when I went up there to have my SL fitted. Looked a bit different then to the pics you posted at the start of this thread!

Well this thread has been a bit too quiet! A baby girl and building a house has kept me from the Land Cruiser project for too long, but the house is finished, and the cruiser project has 101 things left to do....

Congrats on the baby girl  The house build sounds interesting, I bet that kept you busy!

Did WC ever manage to complete the engine conversion?

Yes the house took 2 years from start to finish, great project and experience but wouldn't do it again any time soon!

WC did the mechanical side but never managed to sort electrics properly. The guy who had the experience in these engine jobs left. Ended up using a specialist that has a lot of experience with the 1uz engine in drift and racing cars to sort it out. MOT done, now need to sort the insurance today.

Welcome back Si :icon-cool:

Congrats, well done & hurry up in that order

What Gav said! :text-+1:

It's going to take me a week just to catch up on Ben's posts...

Will take you longer than that! I've been pretty busy!

I'm living on the opposite side of the world to when you were last on here! With my 70 of course! :flags-australia:

That's a fair move! Hope it's going well. Just looking at one of your updates and you mentioned adding an awning. Have been looking for one for a while and cannot decide which to go for, what have you narrowed it down to?

Its going very well thanks mate, loving life.

I found a 1.8 meter long one for the side of the truck that pulls out 2meters and a 1.2m one for over the back door which also pulls out to 2m. One was on ebay and the other was on a camping website I found.

I want to buy the awnings and then build the roof rack to suit them. My plan is to have them on hinges so they lay flat on the rack and then swing up over the top of the rack to pull out. So there not fixed to the side of the rack all the time where they are likely to get damaged, and are instead flat on the rack if that makes sense.

Not my idea, JW takes the credit for it! :icon-biggrin:

I need to crack on and get them ordered so I can build the roof rack so I will post the links on my thread when I do.
