Looking for a 75 or a 79 pick-up

Has anyone here know of a good place to try to find a 75 or 79 pickup,
most likely from Europe?
Jon, after the thread about the 105, would any of the suppliers you
mentioned be worth considering?
Denis/Lio, how about in France or elsewhere in Europe? Are there any
good sites worth keeping an eye on?

Julian, you don't say new or 2nd hand ? I would not advise speaking
to the specialist Toy suppliers unless the usual bona fides can be
produced. Individual buyers would have to have a good case for not
going to the more usual distributorships. Though Inchcape do have a
specialist division I believe, and might have stock in the Middle
East, they are after all Toyota's largest distributor.
But wasn't there someone saying here a couple of months ago that they
had a good source of 70 series somewhere in N Africa, and was waiting
for the price to come down?
I assume that LHD or RHD are acceptable?
I will ask my mate who buys the 75's to see if he can remember who
the usual suspects are.
Although a LR distributor it may be worth asking Conrico if they have
any 2nd hand stock.
As always for 2nd hand I would advise looking for dispersals. Try
Googling the following words - dispersal, disposal, surplus, sealed
tender, bid, viewing, aid agency, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia &
Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo, Romania, Macedonia,
Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon.
Also look for websites of national newspapers in the countries above.
Its where we always advertise surplus sales. (Papers in Bosnia are
Dnevni Avaz, and Oslobodjenja - but in local alphabet, though you
should raise them on these spellings :- ).
I do know that the NGO - UMCOR are currently dispersing their entire
Bosnia fleet as they are pulling out of the place. But they may only
have Nissans available. (If all goes to plan I may have to buy a
couple from them in February).

Julian,
I bought my 75 troopy from Benelease: http://www.benelease.be . They
frequently have 75's. The also convert a lot of troopies into
pick-ups.
Highly recommended.
The stock on their website is not very up-to-date, best to give Wim at
Benelease a ring (mobile): +32 497 55 20 20 . Do him my regards
(Frederik Willems, from the bushtaxi).
If he can't help you, your best bet would be germany, check out
http://www.mobile.de and http://www.buschtaxi.de
Good luck,
Fred

Julian,
My man in the Sahara tells me that they - 70's - are now thin on the
ground in N Africa. However he has told me to contact his man in
Dubai (the enigmatic 'Sven' !) Or at least Sven was copied on the
mail and will get back to me - I think.
My mate says that Dubai is the current hot spot for Toyota supply in
N Africa and the Middle East which is where Sven hangs out.
Out of the blue I have got a mail form Maarten about sourcing - did you?
Anyway he confirms that 70's are still built in both Kenya and Japan,
and incidentally 80's, as I suspected, are still made in Venezuela.
So I await the mysterious Sven's contact.
Cheers

Hi Jon -C-W
If as you say the 80s are still being made in Venezuela, where and by whom.
how could you find out about them , cost spec, delivery to europe. Just
curious is all. Its amazing to think if you had the money you could drive
around in a new 80 series. I tried a few searches but nothing thats why im
asking.

Oh JB, you are chasing rainbows again. Only Toyota make Toyotas, and
as the world's largest motor manufacturer they have assembly plants
around the world like any other. They follow the usual practice of
manufacturing an appropriate model for the market local to that
plant. Remember that VW Brazil have never stopped making the Beetle,
same principle. The exception being that Toy will syphon some off if
there is a specific market for a model elsewhere, witness the 70
series pickup which is dominant in underground mineral mines worldwide.
Toy make 70 series in Kenya cos its the right bush taxi for the
market, ditto also the 80 in South America. So you can go and see
your very favourite Yaris dealer and demand an 80 cos you know they
exist, and you will be told they only sell what Toy allow them to
sell in your market. So its the same as other makes, if you want one
then you have to find someone who can supply out of the market where
the plant is located - given that its import is acceptable to the
market that you are importing into.
You can get a brand new Mk1 Mitsi Pajero/Shogun now made by Hyundi as
the 'Galloper'. So you would be able to do the same for an 80 in
theory, except that Toy don't appear to sell-off the manufacturing
licences to others for their more successful designs (though Hyundi
do make an old Toy panel van). You can get a new 1950's Morris
Oxford made under licence in India, also a Rover SD1 from there if
you want, but not an 80.
So in essence the only way to get hold of an 80 is either make a very
good case to one of the specialist vehicle suppliers working with Toy
- but you will have to be an official purchasing authority to do that
(i.e. UN, military, mining company, oil exploration company,
government etc.) And you may have to buy in bulk to supply the rest
of ELCO membership to justify the supply.
Alternatively get onto the net and find your self a nice little
senorita penfriend in Venezuela then use your undoubted persuasive
charms to get her to buy you one for your birthday and pop it in the
post. >:-}
By the way, they only make petrol versions of the 80 now.
Cheers

Hi John,
Best place to ask that is on the 80s list, I know there are one or two
from Venezuela there. As far as I am aware they are made by Toyota and
are only available as petrol models.

Did you try Benelease yet? They have a nice one up for sale now:
http://www.benelease.be/512_01_nl.html
Don't bother emailing them, just give them a call (ask for Wim).
And no, I do not own any shares of Benelease. I am just very happy customer ;-)
