LSPV

Please can anyone tell me if the LSPV is serviceable, or is it a bin it and buy replacement job ? My pin's getting stuck in the fully open position.

Well yes and no. You can't really replace parts inside - say as a kit from Toyota, but you can take it apart and clean it up and put it back together again. Problem is, usually, getting the bugger off without a lump hammer. It can be a tricksy little blighter. I ended up having to drop my fuel take to get the stumps of the bolts out.

Replacement part isn't a cheap thing even a Milner one. I found that whilst mine looked like a dog, inside was clean as a whistle.

Thanks Chris. Time and mud haven’t been kind to mine either and it looks as though it will be a challenge to get off. I assume that there’s some sort of O ring or seal in there, so heat might not be the best plan. I just looked around for one and about £150 seems to be the going rate. Grrr !

Really? Ouch. The Milner one is £134 But does say it's a genuine Toyota part so I figure that's not really so bad.

Thanks, that looks tidy with a new bracket as well, time to bite the bullet. By the time I’ve tried to get it off in one piece it’ll probably be that much in the swear box anyway. I’ll redo the pipework as well, the fittings look as though they’ll be more than a bit reluctant to shift. Angle grinder time !

Hi Flint. I've fitted two of the milner LPSV's, one to my truck and one to my brother-in -laws . They come with all the brackets including the adjusting bracket on the panhard rod. Really easy to fit too. Took me a couple of hours on mine because the bracket on the chassis would not come of without a fight. I would try spaying release oil or WD40 in through the hole in the chassis onto the bolts for a couple of days. Less chance of breaking off a mounting bolt that way.

Thanks Steve. One thing I tried the other day that seemed to work quite well, was to give a stuck bolt a fair bit of heat and then hit it with a freezing spray from Halfords called Shock and Unlock (or something like that). I was trying to track down some Plus Gas (since ordered online) and the assistant in Halfords wasn't the usual never heard of it type, he used to work for RR in Bristol and knew what I was on about, but didn't have any and suggested trying the spray.

A couple of applications of hot and cold works well. I tried the freeze spray; it was OK but cooling with WD or anything really has a similar effect. When you spray it on, the cooling has the effect of pulling the liquid into the join. Successive applications can work wonders. So can just nipping up the nut a little before trying to slacken it.
