I've studied the causes of aircraft crashes for years. With the civilian airliners it's nearly always a series of very unlikely failures linking together to form a chain of events leading to a crash. With this flight the most likely cause is a combination of slow depressurisation and electrical problems.
The authorities think that the plane was under human control after it lost contact. Well they cannot prove that. Planes can fly erratically by themselves with the crew unconscious or conscious.
There is also the assumption that the receiving equipment on the ground was recording data perfectly.
I think it is a million to one chain of events that caused this plane to presumably crash.
The Americans having some of their citizens on board and it being one of their planes will want to get to the bottom of this rather than turn a blind eye.
