well normal for me is three dogs one lab one springer and one cocker but at the moment im not having a lot of luck with dogs ,my old springer Jake died last year(old age) my lab BB died the year before (vet don't know what the cause was -8years old)so I have had three tries at replacing her ,first was a black bitch from a friend that did not work , second was a fox red pup that I kept till 10 months old and she was to soft to train and then I bought a yellow bitch at 3 years old that was supposed to be trained but turned out to be gun shy so went back after one month and got my £900 back ,so now I have one wee chocolate cocker bitch named GIN
she is five years old now and had her from six weeks old and -nuttier than squirrel shit, amazing wee dog , some pics for you

All of my Labs are (were) gun shy when the hunters are out its like ww3 here on a Sunday, they usually either bark or if they are close, come into the house. Once I let rip with my shotgun in the garden and they legged it, Lola opened the back door and I found them in the kitchen! ( I used to get them excited by doing my best Elmer Fudd impression....be very qwiet, I am hunting wabbitts....) every time the gun came out - then it went bang, and they did the disappearing act!

Here's mine. Was supposed to be for stalking, but Scotland is such a haul taking the kit and the dog is always difficult. He's quite well trained and does blood trails like a missile. But you really need to be active with them all of the time. He gets over excited and forgets what to do. Great breed though.

Our Beagle:

We take him on 'hunts' where we lay a trail in the bush and the beagles track it for points. Alas no real hunting for him yet. He only ever has two things on his mind: Food and Scents.

Some good looking Dogs there. I hope you have better luck with your dogs soon Pete. Steve I wish i had a time Machine as my nine year old lab will sit next to me all day long while im firing the shotgun it doesnt bother her one bit. so i can only hope and help by doing a few things in the right order that my new Pup will be just as good.

The golden lab of Pete's looks just like my mate's lab; his came from his Dad who is a ghilie, so it's working stock. Scottish working labs are a very different physique to English/Welsh labs, and goldens are different again to blacks. It's really noticable when you go to different places the different style (almost) of the same breed.

That's mine and the GF's combination of choice I think at the moment; we've just spent a couple of days with some friends who have a Fox terrier crossed with a Maltese; he's full of character and I think if the GF could she would have stolen him!

I've always had Golden Retrievers, whilst she's had whatever has taken the family's fancy; currently her folks have an JRT from a gamekeeper, so it's a 4 legged killing machine with major little dog syndrome!

I've got a cousin who has a Hungarian Vizsla which he is training to be a HPR dog; awesome dog, just so much energy and brains!
