Heading to Alps in 3 weeks time for a couple weeks of Alpine laning.
On my UK laning trip recently, the back end sagged even with OME +150kg springs
new +400kg arrived yesterday to be fitted for the trip (and removed when vehicle unloaded of expedition gear)
i stupidly decided to refurbish the back axle... not realizing how long its going to take.
i have been using wirebrushes on anglegrinder and hand wire brush and compressed air.
paying particular attention to mounting brackets
one 1 in 5 bolts holding on brake lines etc snapped so far...
although when it comes to the rear ARB bolts i reckon they will defeat me!
the grinder brushes a lot more effective than a hand wirebrush i used last year.
grit blasting would be better though (like Bob did)
i will leave the panard arm, trailing arms for now
need to remove locker accuator again to clean up behind it.
will then spray on dinitrol rust eater, then prime and give a few coats of chassis black
then after alps trip get to work on rest of metal work and chassis, did inside the chassis rails last weekend
There was a lot of flaky rust under the old hammerite and waxoyl... salty scottish winter roads are not good...
