oils

I did two bottles and it didn't make that much difference.
If you are concerned, you could loosen off the oil filter and let some
flow out from there - it will be a lot easier to control that trying to
drain some directly from the sump.

Hi Guys
I was thinking about oils for my Cruiser and would like to know what you guys think, after all it is important what you do.
Can you get synthetic oil for the auto box and if so is it worth it.????

Is it work putting synthetic oil in the diffs and transfers case.???
What is the difference between hopid gear oil and the usual 80w 90. ?????
Sorry guys just seems to be question day for me.

John,
Synthetic oils are definately better and you can get them for everything,
they are very expensive although you change the oil less often. Hypoid 90
gear oil is a heavier duty oil than standard 80 or 90 EP.

John,
Synthetic oils are generally considered to be better then normal oil,
but more expensive so you need to weigh up the cost benefit with how
long you intend to keep the vehicle.
The other things to consider are that the synthetic oils have more
cleaning chemicals in them than older oils so that it is worth
shortening the service interval for the first couple of changes when
you switch over and also try to a run a good oil flush/cleaner product
before hand.
One other thing to be warned about is that these cleaning chemicals can
lead to leaks appearing - if a gasket seal wasn't particulalry good in
the first place, the cleaning chemicals can lead to the gasket leaking.
Going back to dyno oil will resolve the problem as well as renewing
the gasket -you will need to make the judgement on that.

I was thinking about oils for my Cruiser and would like to know what you
guys think, after all it is important what you do.
=> This is a vast subject! I used to have a FAQ about oils, I will try to
find it back and send it to you...
Can you get synthetic oil for the auto box and if so is it worth it.????
=> I know of someone using it on a HDJ80 and using it for playing in the
Lybian sand dunes. Apparently there was no major change in the behavior
(shifting). No idea on the reliability since the A/T are already reliable as
it is. According to him, it mainly helps a lot with th cooling of the A/T,
very luch needed when playing in the sand.
Now if it is worth it, it's hard to say... He said it is VERY expensie
(mainly because very rare too I guess) and he uses it because he has a
friend who managed to provide it to him for cheap...
Is it work putting synthetic oil in the diffs and transfers case.???
=> It might be worth it if you intend to x3 your oil changes intervals.
Indeed the syntetic oils age much better, among other things. But don't you
want to change your oil after every hardcore outings in muddy water? At
least drain it and put it back if you're sure there's not water mixed in?
Personnaly I doubt diff and tc work hard enough to deserve synthetic.
What is the difference between hopid gear oil and the usual 80w 90?????
=> 'Hypoid' is the specific shape of your diff gears (including the diff of
your tc), like a corck screw (against straight cut gears). Hypoid is
mandatory for all but part-time tc. But as most gearbox/diff/tc use Hypoid
gears nowadays, most gea oils are 'hypoid' + using Hypoid oil doesn't hurt
non-hypoid gears...
And last, a word of advice: be careful when shifting to synthetic oil in an
engine with high mileage that has seen only mineral oil. The synthetic oil
cleans out the thin layers of cooked mineral oil that often help the seals
stay tight... I've seen engine sipping oil like it was sweating after 1
month of driving with synthetic... and there's no way back, all the seals
need to be changed!
