of auctions for them from Hong Kong - just make sure you get a named brand - I got a Sandisk one.
Hello,
A 2GB SD card I bought on on ebay arrived this morning. I also paid
=A328 and p&p. I made sure I got a named brand - I got a Sandisk one. It
it a good brand that comes with lifetime warranty.
Trouble is, the SD card is
a) fake - Sandisk confirmed to me t's a genuine counterfeit product
made in Taiwan
b) faulty - windows XP doesn't t recognize it and fals to format the card
I should have smelled the rat when I noticed that while the seller
claimed to be based in the UK, he advised me it would take him 5-7
days to deliver the goods. Eventualy, when it arrived, the envelope
was covered all over with Chinese stamps and labels.
Also, the seller - crossfocus ([Email address removed]) had hundreds
of pos feedbacks and 99.9% satisfaction rate. Only later I noticed his
ebay account was created less than two months ago.
I've been trading on ebay for some time and the only problem I ever
had was with another SD card supplier. These tossers must be attracted
to memory cards like flies to a s**tpile!
I am wondering if I ever get the money back...

I guess in the same way that we should all buy our brake pads from Toyota, so we
should always buy certain photographic supplies from good sources. I've always
made it a rule ( I'm still shooting film) to buy from somewhere where I can see
the stock in a fridge and I can see the expiry date on the boxes before
purchase. As SD cards are effectively your negative/transparency/original until
you transfer to a computer, it is worth sticking to the same rule and buying
from somewhere were you can see them, touch them and take them back if they are
duff.
It must be that these things are easy to fake and that there is squillions to be
made from churning them out.
I have yet to buy anything from Ebay - partly because of stories like yours but
also because I haven't got a clue how it works... having said that I know it
makes sense and I know it will be the place for me to sell some of my camera
gear.
Hope you find a good supplier in the meantime.

Caveat Emptor, as always.
I've bought loads of things from Ebay and have never had a problem; just be
wary from whom you're buying and do a bit of research beforehand.
I bought a SanDisk 2Gb card from Ebay recently, it too came from Taiwan or
somewhere near and it is genuine and works perfectly well in my smartphone.
In any case everything on there is auto-synch'd to the PC so I have a
backup. But at =A325 compared to =A380 from a "real" shop - I'll take the risk!

Hey Roman
Did you pay through Paypal, if so you can get your money back.
I buy a lot of stuff from ebay and have had to file complaints against some
guys but generally its fine to get stuff.
If in doubt contact the previous buyers of items from a sellers shop.
This will tell you if its a good buy ar not.
I bought a SD card and MP4 player from some guy in Hongkong and its fine. I
cant find the name at the moment but if you want I will, its the usual story
cant find me own head somedays.
