Power steering fluid

I will be rebuilding my pump this evening and then do a full bleed of the system.

The owners manual states use ATF Dextron 2 or 3 and I have always used power steering fluid in all other cars so find that a little odd.

Having done a Google search it would seem the opinions are split on what to use and which is better.

Any opinions welcome, ideally something i can pick up from Halfords on the way home would be great or order in today for delivery with Opie.

Oh and amounts would be even better as there is no mention in the FSM or owners manual.

Once again a Google search mentions 10QT which is 11L but I cant see that being correct.

Thanks

Hi Warren

Specs change so I always ask my toyo dealer what they recommend for my 80 but I have not had to change the pump fluid. Well worth giving them a ring I would have thought.

ATF is pretty common for power steering purposes, especially on Japanese cars, so I'd go with what the manual says. The torque converter is basically a big fluid pump.

I suspect that Google figure is for the transmission.
