Power takeup clonk - thats the best way to describe it

I have 2001 landcruiser d4d - Ive owned her for 4years now and 110k on the clock - Since day 1 there has been what can best be described as an occasional take up clunk when changing gear - doesnt happen every time and ive got used to it now - The mechanic who services the LC cant diagnose the clonk and its not a MOT issue - Any ideas and and once diagnosed should i get it fixed . The clonk is not getting any worse if that helps

There might be some play in the prop shaft uj's. Mine was doing that till today when I replaced it. It was the front one transmission end and was a real b'tard to split but easy to put back together.

Many thanks for the reply which get the prop checked out and Ujs replaced if necessary
