Quick !!!!!!!! Bbc 3 now ------- cape town

Watch SABC news any day at 8pm for the next installment :icon-cry:

going to watch this tonight on bbc catch up. was it good?

Was fairly interesting. Nothing new if you're from Cape Town, which is it's own indictment.

I used to travel Baden Powell Drive every day, and through the outskirts of Kayalitsha and Harare (not the Zim one) and at night it was chaos - big rocks in the road to try force you to stop. A lifted 80 series and decent lights meant I never stopped :)

we were going from the airport at cape town and saw a botched car jacking which was mad to see and to be fair the only problem i have seen in SA.
I read the other day that capetown in the worst place in SA for crime.

Greater Cape Town is bad - gang driven violence is huge (gang on gang) and often drug-driven. Tik use is bad, and alcohol abuse rife. Not so great. I'll always remember one community's reaction to gangsters - Rashid Staggie was shot to bits and set on fire in the street - fairly horrific really. Gave rise to a vigilante group that was quite bad in its own right ...

Every town has it's no-go areas for regular folk - unfortunately there a lot of regular folk have nowhere else to go, or the means to extricate themselves.

The SAPS don't really help much either.

Kayalitsha and Baden Powell Drive many times, during teh day.
Well, not many times through Kayalitsha, but close enough

Do you remember all the wires across the road, where they steal the electricity from the road lighting?

Scary shit that last night.

Them doctors were amazing.

I like the "alternative scissors" for lung punctures. Feck me, !!!

It's funny, everyone that goes on about how bad it is doesn't live there. But speak to someone who does live there and they'll be telling you how awesome it is.

I'm heading back in august and can't wait to get back.

Unless you actually live there now, your comments are just opinions and here say. Not fact.

My wife is afrikans i am english and we are looking to move there in the next couple of years so am very interested on the state of the nation. we speak to alot of people down there on a regular basis so i do think i know what i am talking about.

The contry is amazing and i cant wait to move there BUT the level of brutality is getting worse and nobody can say that its not just look at what julian posted.

Its going to be very interesting to see where the contry is going to go in the next few years once the dust has settled with mandela passing. There is alot of hatered against whites there. Cape town is a one of the best places i have been in the world but is also the only place i have seen armed gaurds on the street to protect the tourists?

My wife has a big family in SA and thankfully there has only been 1 murder in that group. they are all very happy and would not leave the country for anything so some thing must be right with the way the country is.

I am living in the 'Crime Capital' of SA, but don't ever really feel in danger. To read the Daily Mail you would think every city centre in the UK is plagued by yobs who are out to stab you. But that isn't the reality. It can happen, but you don't live your life in fear do you?

There are tons of murders in SA, but most of those murders are happening in the townships etc.

But I'm not living in la-la-land - I still take precautions - I am armed most of the time. Growing up in SA you are taught to be vigilant and it comes as second nature to be cautious..

Some people are not willing to live under these conditions and choose to leave - fair enough, each to their own. But I always find it interesting how people are consumed about the state of SA when they have chosen to leave the place... bad-mouthing SA at every opportunity. Not all, but many expats are like that.

I think its great people like Stu are thinking of moving here.... Let the negative people leave and the rest of the positive people can remain and enjoy a braai in the sun :icon-razz:

It seems somewhat ironic that despite 30+ years of living all over SA without losing a vehicle, within 18 months of their return to the UK my aunt and uncle's car gets pinched!

I lived in Cape Town (Clifton) for 3 years, PE for 2 years and J/burg (Rivonia) for 3 years in the 80/90's. Many pals still there and they love it. I never had a problem then and they don't have a problem now....
