Howaya Lads (+ Lassie)
Was at a very good wedding at the weekend.
Some very nice vehicles on show (with hats and dresses) - also some
very nice vehicles on show (the ones that burn diesel)
Anyway - was having the craic with a few lads and got top gear buzz
going.
Got the keys of 2 brand new machines - a Range Rover Vogue + an Audi
Q7
Here's my 2 cents worth on them ...
Engine:
Vogue: 3.7ltr V8 petrol - twin Turbo. Auto. Very very fast through all
the speeds. Pulled 120miles an hour and loads more in the tank.
Q7: 3.0 Ltr Turbo Diesel. Quick. Nice auto gear box that turns
trip-tronic with the flick of a switch. Race car fast. Only got a
hundred on the same stretch of road.
Handling:
Vogue: Nice high driving position. Air suspension works a treat. You
dont need to slow into corners. Feels like you're gliding on air. Brakes
worked very nice.
Q7: Good but couldn't help thinking of the Nissan Almera I drove
recently. Low driving position. Big doors. Feels a bit crampted.
Gadgets:
Vogue: Lots of buttons for different road conditions. Great
entertainment system - including TV's and all sorts. Cream Leather
Interior. Posh.
Q7: Unbelievable. Millions of buttons. Boss speakers - top class.
Satelite TV and Audio system that left the vogue at the starting blocks.
No leather seats. Nothing that hints at any off road ability.
Which one would I get if I had 100K to blow.....
Well anything that has 2 turbos wins the day every time!
Cheers

Ok Niall
I think that will leave my cruiser in its slip stream but I would not really
want to go at that speed just in case it causes nose bleeds and a
teterioration of my mental capasity down to a boy racer mode.
But it is impressive none the less and shows how far a few ton of metal has
come from the time of the 80 series.
I wonder if anyone has compared this LR to the 100 series landcruiser or
similar.
I think the new 120 or 100 series is about 120,000 new euro here.

Hi Niall,
I would buy a very good condition LC, kit it out for an overland trip
and then spend the rest of the money on the trip - beats the RR and Q7
hands down ;-)
It reminds me of some competition I entered once years ago and the top
prize was a Porsche 911 - one of the questions was what would you do if
you won the Porsche - I said I would sell it and get something decent
;-)

I read an article yesterday about the new 200 series - being released
in Australia - V8, Twin Turbo, 5.7Ltr Petrol
That would be the job!!

Re > the q7 is twin turbo!
I was amazed at how fast it was - that probably explains it!

Helo the guys I may not be so good on English but I am a car maniac
since long time. I can tell you some things about fast.
Turbo cars is fast. We talk here speed final, on autoroute ou
autobahn. But is fast what we want? Turbo R5 is fast on racing course
but you have to drive it on town streets to be understand deceived!
So we have twin turbo now. One is make slow speed torque to get pork
moving. Two is make pork go fast. But them if twin turbo twin probleme
if not with warantee service.
Oh then think about green concern. Nobody drive these mega-luxe cars
excepte over roads to look importante. But even there in France some
poor peoples die of not eating much. I say it is disgrace such cars.

Re> But is fast what we want?
If you buy a Q7 then yes. A diesel cruiser - I suppose not.

Agreed, but you could say the same about cruisers....

Bit of butt cheek blowing - let it out my friend!

Hi Niall,
The Twin turbo V8 is a diesel basically two 2.2L avenis engines made
into a V8 and the capacity slightly increased to 4.5L and power and
torque are around 280Hp (vs 180+180=360hp) and torque of 650Nm (vs
400+400=800Nm) so there is tuning potential for probably over 400hp and
900Nm. The 5.7V8 will probably be Lexus only and is a petrol. I think
they will come with six speed autos' as well.
Cheers,
Craig.

Thats ruined it for me anyway. Might as well put half a dozen Yaris
engines under the hood
Interesting though.
Thanks
