Have a suspicion that the turbo bearings are on there way out on my kzj-70.
Has anyone rebuilt their turbo, if so where did you get the spares from and how difficult was it?
Or isit better to buy a new/reconditioned one?
Many thanks for any information in advance
Tom

Rebuilding a turbo is a highly specialized job and requires considerable expertise and equipment.

It's also unlikely that you would be able to buy the parts to do it yourself.

Pattern turbo (Ct20) will set you back about £220.00 plus gasket from Mr.T.

I put one on my 78 and it worked fine, at about same price as a rebuild.

I think something has got lost in the translation.

Ganbayer.

If you are looking for the web and email address for your Toyota dealer, then your local business information section is the place to go to.

If you need info on other dealers who specialise in Toyota's, then we need to know exactly where you are.

Maybe my post didn't help, as it reads that everything is from Toyota.

I bought a pattern CT20 replacement turbo from a company on ebay called maxspeedingrods, it cost me £220.00

I used them because, despite them being a chinese company, they have a distribution warehouse in Southampton, so delivery was just a few days.

They dont sell the turbo gasket, so that has to come from Toyots, as I recall it was something like £22.00

A replacement turbo from Toyota was £1800.00, so I reasoned that I could have a new one every year for 7 years and break even....

In reality, the pattern turbo was identical to the Toyota one and performed just as well, it was going well after 2 years when I sold the truck.

Hope that helps.

As you were.

i know some chinese parts built to low price are poor quality, but some of the most strictly engineered things are made in china as well aren't they graham?

From what I have begun to understand,,,
Most of the cheap stuff gets exported, as it won't be entertained here in China.
This is generally because the rest of the world expects things to be cheap regardless.
So the Chinese simply make it cheap to suit your pocket.
To be honest, I understand that they would rather sell the rest of the world "cheap stuff" as they know it will only last half the time as a product costing a lot more, and you will come back for more.
There are always exceptions, but you need to find them.
The Chinese here tend not to buy cheap.
The world expects from China a $100 part making for $10 then fine, the Chinese will make it all to willingly, but don't expect $100 quality or longevity.

You pay your money, and cut your cloth accordingly.
Or is it, cut your cloth, and pay your money accordingly. ?

The Chinese now have the best rail network in the world, with the newest and best quality EMU's train sets,,,,,,,,,,,, but they are not cheap !
They are all Siemens design, built under licence.
They arrive on time to the minute, and they depart on time to the minute.
They go from zero to 400km/h in 2-3 minutes
They do this, day in, day out, and they are maintained to top notch.
I don't think I have read of one breaking down.

You will not find a CT20 built in UK or USA.

The best you could do is buy a genuine CT20 from Toyota, but they are also made in China, and cost £1800.00

I purchased a pattern Ct20 from maxspeedingrods on ebay and it worked as well as the Toyota part, at £220.00

Good luck.
