Report Arctic Russia Trip

In mid June 2008 I joined a small group on an Arctic Russia trip. I took my
''96 Landcruiser which has had a few minor mods, accompanied by a Disco and
a Defender. A couple of other vehicles from Russia and Germany joined us
over the border, in Russia.
Travelling via Denmark, Sweden and Finland and entering northern Russia, we
had 10 days off-roading in all conditions. Rivers, bogs, sand, and forest
tracks (which are actually their "main" roads). A first class host based in
Russia.
We booked through "World 4 x 4". They have posted some pics on their
website. The link is: http://www.world4x4.co.uk/past_arctic081.htm
If anyone is considering booking through "World 4 x 4" then I suggest you
contact me ([Email address removed])
Other participants on this trip have posted photos on their own net sites. I
can give you the links if of interest.
Cheers
Ken
PS: Most satisfying to fill up with 160 litres of Russian diesel (got a
secondary tank) at 40p litre, just before crossing back into Finland from
Russia !

I've already had a number of requests for more info so I've cut and pasted
the basics below:
The actual Russian element was ?750. This covered all costs in Russia, inc.
insurance, food (mostly camp fire variety - but good), Russian guide to get
us over the border and accompany throughout with an ex-Russian army troop
carrier which would go just about anywhere (and was required on several
occasions). The only extras were fuel, vodka, and beer (not much else to but
there anyway). Good value I thought, although I think thet're now charging
?850.
The add-on costs are getting to the Russian border (and return trip) about
2000kms each way. It took us 2.5 days each way, camping en route (plenty of
excellent camp sites en route) and cross channel ferry (we went DFDS to
Esjberg which was about ?400 per car return, and visa (about ?45)
If you are considering any trip with "world 4 x 4" then have a word with me
first
