Romania 2015

i have got a plan but its still sort of in my head lost somewhere

got a new small problem the gearbox has had it, so a ebay job and got another on its way monday, so a nice afternoon work on saturday with the tools
Have made a start on the fixing the trailer as will

Where are you off the A3?
We are passing you on the A3 on sunday but we are staying overnight at Frankfurt but might be able to a meeting point on the way home or maybe on the way down could be good

These are the names I've been given by the Romanian , a quick random search of a few has me thinking that he has passed the job on to his wife and so I've ended up with Tourist Board info rather than local knowledge but regardless it truly is a beautiful country and every name given is worth a look even if only out out idle curiosity .

Please bare in mind that English is not the writers first language so here it is as it was written for me -

Vatra Dornei, you could pick this up on your way East, or on return. It's a bit of a hike though, off the main line. It's where some of the Monastries are, it nice countryside.
Perla Bucouihei
City Sucheaua, Suceava is way up North, on the East side of the Country. This is worth a trip, it's mountainous there and great scenery, but again, quite a haul up there and back.
City Constanta, the main port and the seaside. Another 300 km East of me. The beaches are good, but very busy in August. Full of Romanians and Russians! The next three on this list are all seaside resorts on the same (and only) coast on the Black Sea.
Statiunea Neptun-Olimp
Statiunea Mamaia
Lacul Techirghiol
City Brasov - CasteluBran (Draculas castle) I can take you here, it's quite close to my place, a leasurely day out. The castle is at Bran, outside Brasov, but Brasov old town in quaint with some nice buildings. We can also pop into Raznov Castle on the way, we could have a castley day!
City Bucharest - The people house - casapopurului - old city I have taken the tour, impressive statistics, but unless you really want to go to the capital, I'd advise against it.
City Sighisoara, Medieval, historic and certainly worth a stop. You could plan your route coming East to go through Sighisoara, the old town of Sibiu is also worth a visit, on the same route.
City Deva, can't say I know it very well, though I've been there several times.

OK, I've made some comments by each, (above in red) JMO of course, and bearing in mind the short time you'll be here.

So it was tourist board as i suspected then :icon-rolleyes: when i said "worth a look" i had google in mind rather than actually visiting it all

I'm right off the Parsberg exit. This station is also typically one of the cheaper fuel stops on the A3. Diesel was EUR 1.13 a Litre when I left on Friday. I'd love a quick grip and grin and rig checkout. I doubt mine will be there yet, so I cannot reciprocate, unfortunately.

i cant see any problem why we cant have a meet up at the fuel stop

At the current rate my trailer should be ready for summer 2016 but still very much looking forward to the trip i will sleep in the drivers seat if i must .

Two suggestions there Ratrace - fuel stop to meet 120mm and a night wild camping . Not sure if they are both related but at glance at google satellite maps suggests we might manage both in the Parsberg area ?

wild camping in Romania up in the hills is what i was talking about

I was thinking we could meet up up with 120mm on the way down or on the the way and it looks good for a fuel stop as well

A night wild camping would be great for me , can't think of a better way to test my trailer :icon-biggrin:

Very few restrictions on wild camping here, park where you fancy, and I'm sure you won't be leaving any mess.

Romanians are the worst for leaving their rubbish in their own countryside, there are complaints all the time on TV and it's very visible with lots of plastic left on the mountains.

It's starting to change, thankfully.

Just sayin'

Hi guys,

Just saw this topic, I'm also going to Romania this year, but a little sooner than you guys. I'm going to the Transilvania Aventura Trophy!
http://www.transilvania-aventura.ro/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=103&Itemid=435

Looking forward to it! Clive, if you want to come and take a look. The extreme class is crazy :)

I would love to Geert, but I don't think I can get the time off.

You're no 103, I guess, out of 33 entrants, it's a good turn-out.

We'll see nearer the day...

Tried to PM Chas a map but it wouldn't attach. This is an edit of the "where am I" under the avatar on this forum, as you zoom select satellite.

Map Clive.PNG

The yellow road on the left runs circa north south, DN1, Brasov to the north and Ploiesti/Bucuresti to the south, and the turning off the DN1 is at "Vultarul" at the south end of the village "Comarnic".

OK, I shall try entering that in the SatNag.

EDIT
The coordinates have been entered but I get a message saying ' The route is too long, directions will be updated nearer the destination' so it looks like we are good to go.
