God the maps in the area we are going are in hi-def

much more easy to see the tracks

Nice one RR i haven't even looked at the route i never was one for making plans though .

OK, I've made some comments by each, (above in red) JMO of course, and bearing in mind the short time you'll be here.

There isn't much in Deva IRRC, there is the ruins of a castle that was being 'renovated' with a cable car up to it and I think that is about it.

I would add Alba Iulia to that list, its rather impressive fortifications are worth a look, but again is quite a spin from where Clive is.

I didn't personally like Brasov, it was a little overcrowded with Americans when I was there, and a little touristy. Sighisora and Sibiu are nicer, though still quite touristy. I heard my first English voice in Sibiu for a week the last time I was there.

If your in that area, its worth peeling off to visit a couple of the fortified churches, like Biertan, not least for some of the quait villages they are located in. I'm not into churches at all, but I enjoyed the trip round three of them one day, though I actually only entered one (I forget which).

One of the highlights is the Ruins of Sarmizegetusa Regia. Posted that as a link for you because I couldn't remember how to spell it for the life of me. It looks a bit dry in that wiki link, but the walls etc coming out of the forest lokk like something out of Asterix! And there is a lot of it too see with several sites all down the one gravel road. The sheer scale of it, given that is pre-Roman, in what the history book consider a 'barbarian' area is quite impressive.

I'm considering getting a CB unit, but as I usually go offroad alone here, I'll probably only use it for the August trip. I know nothing about CB or any other intercom systems, so how would I know whether what I get will be compatible with the guy's intending to come?

first question is how many of you have CB?

second question is what should I get?

Ha, ha, I was just browsing and saw this again

You'd be better off asking where the silly bugger who cuts his grass every week lives!

Nobody here cuts grass, "... It's for the animals!"

I don't want to get your hopes up Clive, but I have a spare handheld CB I carry in the truck in case there is someone CB-less. I have it rolled up in bubble wrap to protect it, now the bubble wrap is there but no CB.
I think I must have lent it to someone on a green lane trip and the bugger has still got it. :angry-screaming:
If it turns up you can use that when we come, but don't hold your breath.
Failing that if you have to buy one just get a cheapie if it's only going to be used once.

OK Chas no worries. I've got a cheapie base unit and 2 hand helds in the house, but I can't get any joy out of it.

I don't know what I'm doing so I'm hardly likely to get anything to work.

The instructions were in Chinese. La la la.

Maybe when we get there between us we could sort it out, I speak two languages, English and rubbish, maybe we'll have a Chinky speaker.

I would like one of these (below) but it looks like i would have to buy from Oz and having more or less decided the centre console needs modified if i'm to fit CB , gauges and switches tidily which is a project in itself so for this trip i will likely be looking on ebay for a used handheld CB .

Nice one Charlie could mount that under the console with just the mike socket on display :icon-cool:

Mine is mounted under the passenger seat, with just the mic on display. The speaker in the mic isn't the loudest, so I fitted an external speaker.
