Had an afternoon as a passenger in an LC on these dunes in Dubai in 2007 when i was over on a training course.
pretty scary at times. All the LC had internal roll cages.
a colleague was on same trip a week before me and one of LC rolled.

2yrs later I bought my first LC :)

some of my photos of the dunes and some of the residents :icon-cool:

It certainly does look graceful - ballet for LC's.

I guess its all down to physics - Low centre of gravity for a start. Then using the foward momentum to pull yourself out of a slide or a roll over angle on the side of a dune. Also, turning into a slide or potential roll angle means that you can control control the exit from that situation. If he stopped, slowed down or even hesitated at the top of some of those dunes he will certainly have rolled. It takes lots of experience, confidence and practice, and the desert in your back yard and deep pockets to fix what you break to drive like that.

Some very nice driving there ... some of it is more surfing than driving :)

I am lucky enough to have been to Dubai on several occasions. I always make sure I go on a dune bashing trip. Usually it is a V6 200 series but the last time I went a 5.8 V8 Nissan Patrol turned up. Very nice car, clearly way more power than the V6 200's. Not quite built as well though, the rear bumper became detached during one of his more exuberant manoeuvres
