To be fair, the nearest this trailer is going to get to an overland trip in the far to even distant future will be a heavily laden trip to the local tip... That said, it accompanied me to Lincomb last weekend with Matt's roof tent on it & did really well :D

Here we are outside the orifice on Wednesday afternoon - note Sankey in standard trim here...

Move forwards to Thursday... I had the day off to sort a few things out for Lincomb so spent a couple of hours down at Col's workshop fettling bits of metal for him to glue together for me to adapt the Sanky hubs for 80 series alloy wheels...

I'd been preparing for this for a while, getting flange profiles sorted & other bits & bobs machined up. After a bit more grinding on the reducer sections between the two flanges to make them fit in between the bolt holes on the trailer hub flange, Col got welding & very soon I had a pair of these...

In the excitement of fitting them, I forgot to take a pick of the adapter fitted to the bloomin hub but here's the wheel on...

Its pushed the wheels out a fair bit & they are considerably wider than the original Sankey wheel & Tyre setup but thats part of the effect I wanted to acheive so I can reduce the tub inside the trailer to give a more useful load area. I was going to try & match the track of the 80 but then the trailer would have been wider than its length!!!

I'll be making mudguards to cover up those fatboy tyres when I mod the tub.

Smart solution  but I wonder how well the bearings are going to handle all that offset if you load it up?

I'll tell you when I find out Jon - I guess I'm hoping they'll be overdesigned as military kit & take it...

This may be a silly question but how have you ensured that the monster spacer is true after welding (i.e. both annular rings are perfectly parallel)? If not, they will cause a nasty vibration on the wheel and kill the bearings double quick?

Didn't get the feeling of any out of balance on the Lincomb trip Andy - they spin up ok but yes, its a calculated gamble on fabricating sommat like this...

The fullness of time will reveal...

There could be a market for then!!

But you could make then narrower to sute the width of the LC.

Track is still narrower than the 80 by a long way Paul :D

I'll let you know when the bearings fail...

So how much to make up a couple more then ;)

Which, as usual, I never did...

However, as Jon has been cranking away on his trailer, I thought I'd share the latest mods to mine from the weekend

do you think you might need to work on covering them over a bit

Just a little bit...

I plan on reshaping the tub & extending it out at the same time as mudguards in a not too disimilar fashion to yours Jon

Progress... That's a dirty word around here

Almost got my shed(s) sorted out... Then I hope to progress

Well... Finally got my welder plumbed in & am honing my MIG skills before tangling with anything serious... :ugeek:

Have been keeping an eye out for an 'economic' roof tent but not acquired anything yet...

In terms of the Sankey - currently a log store

Quick, deliver them to Crispin, i hear he pays well for logs

I was thinking that while I was chopping away over the weekend...

Had some big stuff to contend with!!!
