Hello all,

On my constant travels around China, I have headed up to Harbin, North China, by the Russia border.
Winter temperature is around minus 27 deg.
Here is the worlds greatest population of Siberian tigers.
Double gates controlled security.
These tigers will kill a lion with ease.

What a treat, this large, actually massive reserve, houses around 600 plus tigers.
What magnificant animals they are.

When you buy the enterance ticket, you can also buy a hen, this will be fed to the tigers for you.
Here is the hen, being put on the roof of the armoured feeding vehicle, this is the size of a 100 series LC, just so you can see how big these tigers are.

They have the standard colour Siberian, and the white Siberian.
The speciality animals are in seperated compounds.
Ie, the standard Siberian, has by far the 90% of the area.
Then the white Siberian Tiger.
Then there are some prides of lion, standard colour.

Would love to see that real  ....

Would love to take that feeding car out too

Graham, are you sure there;s a black panther there, I can't see it ;)

Just before we went in on our group, the group before paid for a cow to be eaten.
Definatly not for the sqeemish, but they chain a live cow, round its neck, to the tow bar of the feeding truck.
Then the truck slowly drives into the reserve.

Well, I am sure you know what happens next.
The truck drives at about 10 mph, just a trot for the cow, and the various gates remotly open.
Then the tigers set upon it.
These tigers are huge, a man would not last 30 seconds.
The cow lives for maybe 5 mins, no more.
The tiger will jump onto its back, some bight it's legs, and almost collapse the cow to the ground.

The cow is soon dead, and they just let the tigers eat for about 5 minutes.
Then the feeding truck drags the remains back out of the reserve.
The remains are then cut up and fed to all the other animals during the day.

Like I say, lots of blood, no good for the meek.

That's great  :D All you can get for feeding the animals @ Colchester Zoo is a little plastic cup of pony nuts

Hi Anna,

It is a little gory, but again, this is what happens in the wild.
It's no good to keep feeding these tigers meat thats been prepared already.

It's not good if your the cow, I agree, but they have to eat.

On another note, have you ever seen crocodiles at feeding time?
I was here, a couple of years ago, over in South Africa.
http://www.crocodilecreek.net/

I have seen crocs, perhaps 4 meters nose to tail, and when they get feeding time,
Well, the chunks of meat, and I mean, like 12 inches cubed, get tossed into the pack, all you hear is an almighty snap of the mouth.
It sends shivvers down your spine.
Far far more aggressive than any tiger, the crocs are just amazing.
