Since I bought my 95 about a month ago, I haven't been able to get the rear diff lock to engage, although you could hear the clicking and all the dash lights were working correctly (but remained flashing red on the diff lock lamp).

Was resigned to having to take the thing apart in line with Bob's excellent write up. Externally the actuator looks perfect.

Having spent some time on a gravelly track today, I persisted with getting it to engage and moved the steering around a bit more vigorously. Lo and behold, it popped straight in, the little beauty! After lots more engage/disengage switching to check it wasn't a fluke, I am now satisfied that the diff lock works perfectly well. Happy days!

I do love Toyota build quality

Especially when I think back to my former (half as old) Mitbushitty and the fact that you can't even change a bulb without having to drill out the rusty screws they use to hold in the light clusters!!
