The worst possible advert for our new multi billion pound aircraft carrier

Non-story. The picked this up on sea trials (that's what the sea trials are for), and the leak is not that severe. It's easily managed until it gets fixed.

Pour some Milners water pump seal into the sea and that should stop the sea getting out into the ship.

Wrong type of seal fitted ?

Joking aside it pisses me off how the media jump on things like this and blow them up out of all proportion. Besides 200l/hr sounds like bugger all on a ship this size.

I have to agree TP. I was unaware of this until one of our local radio DJs had a bit of a rant about it last night. The Main Stream Media just love to put the boot in at every opportunity. Totally ridiculous that it's a story in the first place and that it's not one praising all the other million and one things that are working correctly and our industry for getting them right. As said, that's what sea trials are for. It's about time the MSM started giving credit where it's due.

Exactly my point "worst possible advert". I would not like to have to pay for the repair though. It's "balloon news" half the time.

I expect it's under warranty, so somebody will be crying. I think it's brilliant that these carriers were made in the U.K. whatever happens. BTW the DJ's rant was on the same lines as this thread.

All boats leak and so have a bilge pump removing the water , an alarm only sound's if the volume of water exceeds the pumps capacity to remove it . I would imagine this raft can pump more water in an hour than the entire UK fire service . Stern gland suffers when prop shaft alignment is out so yeah sea trials revealed the need for a minor adjustment .

It Leaks.

The story here is that zomg billions of pounds paid to an American company ( you didn't think bae was a UK company did you? ) for something that should kinda work, is still a work in progress. Dry docking something like this is going to be even more fun!

Ofcourse as a nation we decided we wanted to live worse lives with poorer health care, so we could pay for this boat ( a chunk of this money came from nhs and education budget, I don't remember how much exactly but it was a bunch ). And we have only started to pay for it, wait and see what the planes are going to cost.....

The trouble with these vanity projects is that they cost so much the Armed Forces will be scared to risk them - they (the 'Prince of Wales' is still under construction) are enormous targets that modern weaponry will be able to hit from a distance.

A neighbour (retired Lighthouse Board Engineer and boat owner) was invited to a special tour of the Queen Elizabeth before it left Rosyth (its just along the road from us!).

The design was compromised by the Accountants . . .

It was designed to have bow and stern thrusters but these were not fitted - therefore it has to have Tugs in attendance wherever it goes.

It has NO defensive armaments and relies on the rest of the fleet for protection.

No aircraft yet - the Americans are still developing them . . cost unknown (a few Choppers are parked on it for show but it isn't a Commando Carrier).

I have a bad feeling about the pair of them (and I'm usually 'Pro' the Armed Forces, coming from an Army family and working for the Navy at one point).

Bob.
