Gareth,
I was going to write that but the alternaor it might have been an exchange?
One year I will get to Goodwood rather than see bit on TV. I bought a
glossy book for =A35 in the cheap book store last week, Vintage "sports" cars,
up to WWII, nice pictures, a little write up on each and a "technical"
detail on the engine for each of 30 or so cars, including a few of my
favourites, Bugatti, Austin 7 and the Daimler 4 1/2. (thought a 40 series
would make a good donor for a 4 1/2 replica / kit car, 2WD only!)

Subject: RE: [ELCO] ticking
Lubo - get the old - fully working alternator - back, it is yours.
Re ticking - valve clearances - when checked last?
Be warned - great care is needed on the 24 valve engine both to check
and especially to adust the clearances. Inexperienced dealers have been
known to get things wrong and then attempt to charge the customer.
I suggest you search the Birfield archives for info - or do a google
search - 1-HDFT VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT should get you started.
BTW - I went to the Goodwood Festival of Speed last Friday, one or two
cars with no poppet valves in the engine including one of my favourites
- the Rover P6 (2000 shape) with a gas turbine engine - 15,000+ rpm and
it runs on kerosene - no engine braking though !!! I didn't see a sleeve
valve engine though - another story.
Regards Gareth.
