Toyota rear axle

So long as the rain stays away, I'll bob a few lines on a bit of paper for you tonight Jon :)

I can not get to mine till the weekend Jon. Plan was to swap the axle/maybe not. Then swap the body for a Hi-cap LR 110 rear body. This gives enough room to sleep and is no wider than the LC. So when taking it out, if I can get the LC through then I can get the trailer past aswell.

But I am wating to hear about a 4 wheeled trailer with a box body. This will have a NATO eye on it.

Basic chassis layout drawing for you Jon... I can fill out more detail if you require it :)

I was surprised just how narrow it is when I measured the track on MUX... Approx 1,200mm on the Trailer vs around 1,680mm on MUX... I don't think I will try to match the two with spacers but I have more space than I thought to build the spacer :D

Just go the whole hog & get a caravan Paul!!!

Here's some trailer porn to help inspire you http://www.flickr.com/groups/matching-trailers/

This is a trailer made by one of the members of Shropshire Suzuki :D He called it an 'AlfaVit'

The other thing that I recall reading when building an off road trailer is to try & get the measurement between the hitch and the axle centre line on the trailer as close to the wheel base of the towing vehicle :) Can't remember why now  :D

Thanks Gav. That could be made to work with the axle I have. I didn't plan for the trailer to have quite as wide a track as the 100, just wide enough to fit in most ruts which the 100 (and Mux I should think) is a squeeze for at times although with more of you driving 80's now that's less of a problem than it used to be

No probs Jon. Might be worth keeping an eye out for a cheap Sankey but if you have to pay what I did, I would consider building my own chassis...

I have decided not to match the tracks widths of the trailer to the truck after that measuring session!!! Yup, its a squeeze getting the big chap around at times ;)

I'm going to remake the tub for the trailer so there are no wheel arches in the trailer at some stage but am hoping to make a modular sort of set up. The Sankey tub looks to be held on by swing bolts so the design is already there...

How long can we keep this hi-jack going??

I don't even know what I would do with a trailer now Gav so I wouldn't spend lots of money on a Sankey. I was just after a bit more information to file away while it was a current topic :) I don't have a large flat area where I could build a chassis so it would be a bit of a challenge plus steel is not getting any cheaper so a sankey with a knackered tub for a few pounds would probably make more sense than starting from scratch. I've just hot glued the various bits of my roof rack together and at 1.4m x 2.4m that was a bit of a challenge to find space to work on!

I can see you now - down on the road in front of your drive cutting & welding furiously with lengths of box section all over the place with the bin lorry trying to get past!!!

Don't forget the queue of scrap men waiting to see what they can have  must be big business judging by how many come round this estate most days.

They've started coming round our way too - you can hear him shouting 'ANY SCRAP IRRRRRONNNNNN' streets away...

This why I always park in service areas as I can be carrying £250,000 worth of copper cable!!
