Hi guys.. first time in the 70 series section here, hoping someone can enlighten me a little....

anyone tell me if a t-case from a lj70 is the same as a lj78 or are they a different beast?

ratios different at all? different engines have different boxes? (if they came with different engines?) that sort of thing....apologies for being a complete noob when it comes to 70's

any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi andy. Just had a quick scan on toyodiy and the t-case part numbers are the same for all the following 70 series: LJ7*; HZJ71, 74, 76, PZJ7*

Scratch that, did a search for Euro market LJ70 and it came up with either 36103-60120 or 36103-60130 for elec 4wd control

A search for my Jap spec LJ78 brought back 36103-60190

Sorry dude.

This might be the case for Auto boxes, if you wanted you can check part numbers against each other on http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/q.html

Good luck mate

I think they are interchangeable, but they have different part numbers for minor things like electronic ,vacuum and manual shift.
A lot owners use the LJ70 t/case behind the leaf sprung landcruiser gearboxes to take advantage of the lower low range

the LJ78 has 2.29 low range and the LJ70 has the 1.9
both bolt up but you might need to swap minor parts from the old to the new in some cases.
