Lubo - what was the outcome of the ticking investigation?
Regards Gareth.

Hi Lubo,
THat sounds expensive.
If you have a part number I can get a quote from our local dealer to
see what he comes up with otherwise talk to Maarten at All American in
Holland, they do upgraded and replacement turbos and I am sure they are
cheaper than that - http://www.all-american.nl/

Julian,
The link works but the site seems a little broken, ie the product pages
don't work or is it just my MSIE6 browser?

Hi Malcolm,
It's very much work in progress and has been for a couple of years - just
ignore it and drop them a line or give them a call.

seems to be the exhaust valves and they say that is 'normal' and not
'dangerous'...on 08.08 I'll be there to change my antenna and take a
look at it again...

Hi Lubo,
OK, the 17201-17030 turbo assembly is for the 24valve 1HD-FT engine
produced from 1995-1998.
The 12valve 1HD-T engine uses the turbo 17201-17010.
Price wise I can get the 24 valve turbo for about ?1805 (inc VAT) and
the 12valve for around ?1500 (inc VAT).
Two things to consider:
Talk to Maarten at All American, he should be able to get a better
price for a Toyo one or supply an alternative suitable one.
Ring around your local turbo/tuning companies and ask if any of them do
rebuilds.

I've done so and rebuilding is far cheaper -around 5000Nok but can i
trust them?
the best price came from Maarten but it was 'sport turbo' so I'll ask
him again for the original one
Cheers

Hi Lubomir,
Personally I would go that route. The 4.2 is a great engine with bags
of potential. If I have to replace components I always look at
upgrading where possible.

Hi Lubomir,
I would. You probably won't get the full benefit unless you upgraded
the exhaust and slapped an intercooler on, but it would be a start.

Hi guy's,
Maarten's 'sport turbo' can be used on the 1HD-T, 1HD-FT, & 1HD-FTE and
it is much cheaper and more durable than the stock turbo, pumps more air
(better top end power), can be safely run at higher boost, & comes onto
boost faster.
Cheers,
Craig.

Hi Lubo,
You don't want the original one the sport turbo is an improvement. See
below.
Maarten's 'sport turbo' can be used on the 1HD-T, 1HD-FT, & 1HD-FTE and
it is much cheaper and more durable than the stock turbo, pumps more air
(better top end power), can be safely run at higher boost, & comes onto
boost faster.
Cheers,
Craig.

Hi Guy's,
A friend in aussie put one on without making anyother changes, after
talking to me about my sport turbo, and as soon as he fitted I got a
email along the lines of bl@#dy h#$ll the truck is now a rocket and so
reponsive this is the turbo toyota should have fitted from new. Since
having driven both stock and Maarten intercooled 12 and 24 valves with
and without the sport turbo my main comment is the intercooler gives a
huge invcrease in torque 380Nm through to 600+Nm and power jumps to
250+Hp the 'sport turbo' just adds a significant degree of sharpness or
agression to the truck as it is really reponsive to the throttle. you
have to be quite careful pulling out to pass if following another car
out as the mid range torque tends to encourage you to try to climb
through there back window as the acceleration is so hard and instant.
0-100km/h at 2550kg rig weight is now 10secs flat not bad for a big
brick shaped whale. I recently took a guy for a spin in my auto truck
who wanted to improve his to perform as close as possible to his V6
commodore (I think sold as a Vauxhall ??? in the UK) as he was selling
the commodore and wanted some passing power on the road. Anyway post
test drive he looked at me and said my commodore would not have a hope
in hell of keeping up with this thing.

Well Julian and Craig
you convinced me at last: it will be the 'sport'turbo. Maarten
offered me a packeg including the intercooler. So I wait for my tax
money back and if the amount is like last year I'll do the whole pack
at Nederland :)
the sad thing is that I have changed the exhaust last december...
cheers
