Me too Shayne, I learned piano from aged 8 to 14 and although quite good (got some high scores and played at school concerts etc) never managed to learn to read, certainly not at playing speed.

Always regretted that.

Very nice Anna, well done, Clive you must be very proud:icon-smile:.

Thanks guys, she's full of confidence, the music school has a policy of public performances every month. They hold parents/family/friends concerts, and Ana's played in them every time. Party frock and bright lights, she's not phased in the slightest!
Her hands are all over the place, but the teacher says all that will improve in time. She loves it, all driven at her request.

I was still in junior school when a lodger as his leaving gift gave me his very old and small guitar though it was to big for me , unfortunately it only had two strings and with no means to get any more i introduced that guitar to every single visitor to the house for the best part of a year praying someone would take it upon themselves to help out (it was impolite to ask). Finally on christmas eve a crowd turned up from the pub roaring drunk and a guy who carried a spare set strung and tuned it for me  . It was gone in the morning :(

 Ana's learning guitar too, again at her request, not as far advanced as the piano though, yet.

Excellent there is no greater gift to give a kid than the ability to make their own music i reckon . I could have been a rock star i tell ya!

Well done young lady, as the old saying goes Practise Practise & more Practise. i used to tinkle the ivory's a bit, just played by ear, couldn't read all them funny squiggles dots & lines but i could get em singing in the local pub, however since losing me pinkies i can't play now.

I can imagine the difficulty, JM.

Mind you, Russ Conway had a digit missing, but it was only the one...

Great Clive, she really is confident. Mind you, doing concerts like that each month is bound to breed confidence and confidence I believe is the greatest gift for children.

Love the 'real' fire and the fact it is all mic'd up complete with sound engineer. I'm impressed.

Russ Conway for the piano? Then it's Django Reinhardt for the guitar! [emoji4] He badly burned his hands in a fire in his gypsy caravan and lost a finger or two.

Actually, it looks corny, but at the time of that concert (with the real fire) it was -18C outside, and it was quite a nice idea!

No, I thought it was a nice idea, music by the fireside. Just seeing a fire has a real therapeutic, calming effect.

Maybe we'll be seeing Ana on Romania's Got Talent in a few years time.

Not too sure of that Rich, in fact it's not something I would wish on her, but in the unlikely event, it's something she would decide. Anyway, there's far to much competition to even imagine that.

We've just taken the view that it would be a shame to deny her opportunity. She started with the idea of learning the piano, so we arranged for lessons. I was ready for the interest to die as quickly as it came, but she proved us wrong. Then she came with the idea of guitar. Santa came with a guitar that year, so now the music school provides guitar lessons too.

We're both ready for both interests to fade, but so far she's keen to continue...

Hope its not a thread jack but kids do make us smile and i have just been informed with absolute authority by our grandson who is 3 next week that we are nanny and bampy truck as apposed to his grandparents on his fathers side who are nanny and bampy train as they live near the train station

Classic, like that a lot. It just shows what's important in life to a 3 yo and how we get tangled up in more complex matters which really prove to be less relevant in real terms.

More power to 3 yr old's I say
