What is this part?

Hi All,

Can you please help me identify this part on my 80 series? It is located behind my bullbar under the front left of the chassis and is looking very worn. Possible replacing?
Ive tried to find it via search engine but havent had any luck.

Is this something that's necessary only in humid climates? The air con works in my 80 but I can't see such a thing anywhere.

Not only is it a drier but a protector/filter for the evaporator. If particles get into the evaporator there is a major problem as the evaporator is expensive and difficult to clean. I would only use a Toyota one.
