What tap and die sizes...?

I have a number of knackered (i.e., cross-threaded or just mashed) fixed threads on the truck and associated knackered bolts, so I need a tap and die set.

Looking at them I can either buy a set, which usually includes at least 50% of stuff you don't need, or get them individually which is probably the best bet.

But, I haven't a clue about thread sizes etc

What would people recommend as the best sizes to suit an 80?

A lot of the stuff on LC are 1.25 pitch and you will not find this in sets. You need to get a good metric set, so you get the tap and die holders and then buy the ones you need when you need them.

Standard pitch M6, M8 and M10 plus fine (1.25) M12 should cover most things. Add a fine (1.25) M14 for 100 series :) I don't think I can remember encountering any fine pitch bolts below M12 but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the replies, I'll get as suggested

Just wondered what you did as I am in the same boat. Which make did you get?
