Who is doing what maintenance today?

Well Thats everything out
IMG_3143.jpeg
, I was surprised the spring clips holding the flexibles came out without any drama. You can see the difference in wear on the nearside pads clearly the one set of pistons has not been working well

Time to reassemble, everything came apart nicely, hope it assembles just as well.

Well... It stopped raining and dried up enough to get out there and do the annual oil & filter change.
Quick job, old filter removed without any issues - it’s amazing how easy it is when you’ve put the previous ones on “by hand” unlike the first change when I got the truck when it took nearly half a day to remove!

Anyway, all done in 20 mins / half an hour, oil drained, filter removed, new filter on, drain plug back in, filled back up, old oil funnelled into empty containers, put away sockets and .... NO! Somehow I knocked over the old oil! Guessing about 3 litres of oil now on the drive.

Pleanty of washing up liquid and jet washing later the drives nearly back to how it was before. Simple 20 minute job now complete in nearly 2 hours.

Next time anyone near 70 miles around me, let me know I ll come with a pen n a book to note down what to do :) or just help n learn

My tools not yet arrived I started cleaning my friends car as all my cars r clean

Been prepping a replacement 2H sump pan as mine started leaking badly recently. The new one has a dent or two but sound netal and good gasket surfaces.

Oil & filter changed, then set about fitting a new matched pair of alternator belts (broke one on the way back from the avalanche meet) , thought I’d also fit a nice new denso alternator that I got at a very reasonable price from opie’s with a 15% discount.
will refurb the old one to keep in stock!
bloody adjuster locking bolt was rounded off, and what a pig to get to with the intercooler pipes in the way, not to mention the a/c compressor , fan & a plethora of other bits, anyway a nice new bolt fitted!
Next was to replace the air con tensioner pulley bearing & fitted a new belt
Then changed both of the sidelights as the originals were slightly cracked & misted up at the slightest sign of damp!

finally blasted off some of the dried mud underneath (avalanche) with the air line

ran out of time to tidy up the fuel pipes to the Walbro pump, maybe next weekend!

sorry no pics but I’m sure you know what an alternator looks like!

time to take the old girl for a little drive now I think

Andy

Fitted the LH front calliper today completing the brake overhaul, two new callipers on the back, front callipers rebuilt with new seals and braided hoses on each wheel. That leaves 3 old flexy hoses still insitu but they look OK and aren't available off the shelf as braided items anyway so they'll stay. If only the handbrake was as simple. :laughing-rolling:

Just finished fitting a catch can sodding thing did not think this through took out air box to make so room for me hams at the end of me arms so far so good made up a simple bracket mounted the can got the half inch fuel pipe purchased yesterday and buggered if it don't fit the cruiser so put it all back together and off we go to local motor factors to get some more pipe take it all apart again to put it all back together again
Anyone know a good mechanic

Just come back from Scotland after a great trip, and there was a very annoying vibration, I hadn't noticed it on the motorway on the way up as quite frankly, roof tents and 35 inch muds tend to make the thing vibrate a little bit anyway. However from 40 upwards it was hugely noticeable under load, would stop when taking foot off the go pedal, so after searching on here assumed it was the ujs.
Getting under the truck today I noticed a drip from the bash plate that wasn't there before I went away

Now.its been moist under there for years but this stuff is fresh :(
Video to come of the wobbly ujs, gonna guess that the back one is shagged? And yes, I really should grease them more often!

Ok, just been for a spin without the rear prop on
A. It's been a long time (12years) since I've driven a front wheel drive car, wheelsoun it rurning out the drive.
B. My test drive up to 70mph was as smooth as... A fully loaded truck with 35 inch muddies gets. Now just to figure out how to change these uj things, oh and unfortunately phasing... As it dismantled itself as I pulled it off the truck, yay!

Thanks Bob, it didn't feel right but also didn't feel "urgent" as it was only over 40mph and by 70 I wouldn't have noticed it if I didn't know.
Thanks towpack, reading Chris's problems with phasing has always confused the #### out of me but I think I understand it now, just wish it hadn't slipped out!
