So with the inaugral 'Lincomb Punch Comp' looming & that man Rubie boasting about how brill his new sooper winch is going to be, I figured I'd better get me thumb out me **** & start playing catchup...

I've had a Goldfish winch & tray rolling around the boot for yonks now but the tray needed some modifications to make it fit the 80. I spent a few evenings chopping a load of plates up from some 6mm flat bar I had lying about & this is what I have come up with... Just picked it up from my pet metal gluist on the way home & after a bit of adjusting with the 3lb precision lump hammer, its on:

The feet of the winch are level with the bottom of the chassis rails & looking at it now, I can see sort of how I'm going to build me bumper off it. I was going to make the bumper independent of this but... Hey, who knows whats going to happen to it!!!

Pics - the painted bit is the tray that I got from Goodwinch & have cut the heck out of!!!

Had to put the bling rope guide on it ;)

Picking up the holes on the top of the chassis rail...

& underneath... You can see I had to use a bit of plate to extend the Goodwinch tray...

There'll be another plate on the outside of the chassis rails eventually to support the body of the bumper so that gap around the edges will disappear & the tray will have even more support.

There's going to be some interesting angles on this bumper when its done...

Hey, everyones got to start somewhere!!!

I think it was the 3-pounder... Might have been the '4' come to think of it

I had to go pick myself another one up as Col seems to have adopted that one of mine  Hope I got a big enough one - I'll be setting to work on your load guard Saturday AM Matt

So, wee update required on this...

I [s:1el8if6e]wasted[/s:1el8if6e] spent a Saturday at Col's shop a few weeks back & ended up trying you make a bumper that would 'shroud' the tray but, trying to incorporate design details of JW's 100 series TJM & Nav's, I ended up making something that resembled a toolbox & got disheartened... I might ressurect it at some stage but not for now...

With Lincomb a day away, I spent the Thursday at Col's shop pulling offcuts of sheet steel out from behind his guillotine & folding them up... After several [s:1el8if6e]wrong cuts[/s:1el8if6e] false starts, this is where it ended up. Apologies for the lack of any fabrication shots... Photo's just taken in the work carpark:

Christened the 'Winch Thong' by Chris, I quite like the way its going. Its still a work in progress but its remarkably strong with all those 'shapes' in it - unfortunately, a lot of the folds 'disappeared' when I painted it... Hopefully you can see that its not just a flat plate of steel...

Before you all start yarping (like Col) that the side bits are on the p!ss sloping downwards, they are & it is intentional

Cheers

Gav, not sure the a/c dryer is going to offer much protection against a n/s frontal impact

And how do you keep the blue "eye shadow" on the o/s headlight with all the rain teeming down? :gay-gay:

The winch codpiece looks great though
You could be right there Andrew - I thinks its days are numbered whichever way up; on-board air conversion beckons its doom...

The 'eye shadow' takes a lot of maintaining luvvie ;)

Cheers dude - watch this space
