I do tend to keep my cars for many years...

I bought the Mk1 1600 for £1295 when the cheapest going was £1995 because it had a fire under the bonnet (This was 24 years ago) but had been fitted with a new engine from VW so really a bargain although the bonnet was mat black.

It was very hard to drive at the speed limits in that golf, it just shouted out at you why are you only going 70 even though it was only had a four speed gear box

I don't have much time for classic cars, I quite like the benefits of modern technolgy, but making that list reminded me of my Ford Taunus and how 'cool' it was. It wasn't the one that was basicly a Cortina, it was like this one on utube (but without the turbos and TLC!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJh8l0c9REs .

In no particular order:
Red Merc auto 280 SL?
White Merc manual 380 SE
Blue Mini (the small one)
Red Mini Estate
Orange beetle
Light blue Golf
Dark blue metallic Golf
Red Crappy Vauxhall Astra
Dead/dying archaic mustard yellow range rover (crap)
My pal's landrover for a spell
My brother's White Grand Vitara
My brother's Red Golf
Mustard coloured Ford Capri
Brown Triumph (lumbering pudding, never did me any favours)
Blue and cream Nissan Patrol (for Algeria one year)
Blue and silver Mitsubishi 4x4 (when I was stationed/working in Zambia)
An old Lime green metallic Honda
White double-cab Hilux (Libya, first time)
White bog-standard single-cab Hilux (for Algeria, first time, and when I was stationed/working in South Africa)
White Landcruiser 75 (Egypt and Sudan, first time)
White Honda Civic, tweaked up (boy racer type, but without the very low skirt trim)
White 80 1HDT auto
My favourites were the Mercs and the Honda Civic, and of course l'Beast, my bestest favourite.
Not a very inspiring list admittedly.

Austin Champ (3ltr RR)

That brings back memories, my uncle had a champ which he bought direct from the MOD and with it a brand new spare crated RR engine. I used to love going out drive in that when I was boy.

Well, being the young whipper schnapper that I am I only passed my driving test in 2003 so my list isn't quite as long as some here, but I'll put it up anyway...

1st car: 1992 Suzuki SJ Samurai
5224980305_large.jpg

After modding that up and finding out the hard way how damn unreliable it was, I got a 1995 Vauxhall Astra 1.7D as a second car.
5224980204_large.jpg

Then I went through my chav stage in life and got a honda civic coupe, although I have to say it was probably the nicest car to drive that I've had..
5224980344_large.jpg

Then there was the fatboy vitara as I'd got rid of the samurai and the civic wouldn't tow my boat
5224980375_large.jpg

Don't worry, it did get treated properly:
5224980379_large.jpg

I sold that and the boat to release funds for my travels and bought a 1991 MK1 VW Caddy purely as an investment. It tripled in value while I was away in Aus :D
n501651878_1189333_5829.jpg

Over in Aus I had a 1989 Mitsubishi L300 that I fitted out as a camper. 440,000kms on a 2.0l petrol engine and still ran beautifully when I sold it at the end of our trip
n501651878_1591624_293.jpg

The caddy was a good runner so I kept it for a while, but still had a hankering for a project vehicle and ended up buying this 1971 VW T2 for far less than I shold have
n501651878_2039490_2267898.jpg

I soon found that there was no way I'd be able to afford to restore it to former glory and sold it on.

My hankering for off roading came back shortly after, and that's where Rex came in
