Your inspection is probably a bit more robust than most. On my last renewal I just had a phone call with the usual questions. When I asked if he wanted to come round and have a look, his response was basically don't have time/can't be bothered as I was a know entity to them :wtf:

Good luck!

Well a cuppa and a chat later, and two new certificates were in my hand. Complete with mistakes. No grief, all very sensible. Would have been quicker if I hadn't talked so much. Clear that if I hadn't called, the visit would have been in the New Year and seeing as I have stalking booked, all a bit too late.

All laid out, with tickets on each rifle, serial numbers, maker, calibre etc. Made it nice and easy for him

Chris

looks like i might have to add my air-rifles to my FAC certificate soon - since in Scotland they want people to license airguns as well as fire-arms...

Just spotted more mistakes in the FAC. Given that in my application I changed absolutely nothing you'd think that you'd just change the dates and press Print. It'll have to go back in Jan to be corrected. I'll use it to get to Arran then send it in with a letter. More faffing around. The FEO turned up to do the interview with the ticket already printed. Well what if there'd been alterations needed? All a bit predetermined. Clearly a time saving idea that doesn't save any time.

Chris

Chris sounds like they need a kick up the ASS. but at least you can go get some venison
Have a good Christmas and Healthy New Year.

Joe

Cheers Joe, yep prepping for the trip up North in Jan. It can go either way up there in the Winter. Short daylight, bad weather, mist and fog, but I'm a trier and I shall bag something whatever it takes. Still agonising over which rifles to take. Probably the .300 Win, but I love my 7 mm Rem mag. If it's close quarter stuff then the .308 would do. The 25-06 is fast, flat, dependable. Hmmmm

My mate only has one rifle so for him it's not much of a choice. Amateurs.

Chris

Sounds good Chris, im sure il end up with a collection of guns:violence-guntoting:. i went clay shooting today and borrowed my uncles Beretta but it didn't fit me correctly so it might of been a blessing that i missed the first gun. I will have another go with my friends browning 525 as that seemed to fit nicely and next time i can have a go of a Winchester too.
Decisions, Decisions.

i highly reccomend the 525, i've recently bought myself one, trying a few out in the shop it felt allot more balanced than the berreta silver pigeon they had there and shouldered nicely, used it this weekend down at bisley on a few clays and it shot lovely :icon-wink:

I know. It's always a hard choice...

Nice armoury
what model semiauto SG is that?

Have you got any small calibre rifles or are they all big bad boys.
I havent been out shooting for weeks, must get out these hols.

Heading for the bush tomorrow. .375 for the light rifle, .400 Jeffery for the medium caliber. No need for heavy, and a buddy will bring a .22 for the fun (lots of francolins, guinea fowls and rabbits around...).

It's a Beretta - 303 Field I think. It has an extra slide cut off on the fore-end. Really good for carrying with an open slide, then quick squeeze to shoot the slide forward ready for a shot. The other single barrel is the 10 shot Franchi pump action.
There are two .22 RF in there, the rest are all bad boys. Smallest is .17 Rem which is centre fire not this HMR nonsense. 4200 fps MV with a 20 grain V Max. Up to .300 Win Mag With .223, 22-250, .243, 25-06, .308, 7mm-08, 7mm Rem Mag and .44 mag in between.

With the 8 handguns that I used to have, not a half bad collection.

Quite a collection youve got there Chris.

What happened when the law changed and you had to hand all the hand guns in, did you get any money back? or did you just have to hand them all in and accept the loss?

Hey, Ben. I had to hand them all in. I used the money to buy some of the rifles. Well it made sense to me. Obviously pistols are far more dangerous than rifles. There was never a question of me being unsafe :icon-rolleyes:
Which makes the prohibition of hand guns all a bit pointless really.

Anyway, an old argument that serves no propose to rake over. :violin: But it was a great hobby and hugely well disciplined. To the best of my knowledge no one ever got shot whilst shooting on a range. Off roading and laning per se is far more dangerous.

Chris

Nice collection of rifles Chris.

I know that hand guns were banned in the UK but there still seem to be a few clubs around offering pistol shooting. How does that work?

i beleive the barrel has to be over a certain length then it's classed as a target pistol, something to do with not being easily concealed?
