End of diesel overland travelling in Europe.

@Shayne I think this is a post designed to get you to click the link. I don't think it has anything to do with the actual thread. ... and I would not recommend clicking the link or am I just getting cyber paranoid in my old age???

Metal filings on plug during diff oil change

Thanks guys, that's reassuring to hear. The oil looked ok. It had done 30k km's so was overdue. (I normally change at around 25k kms). I'll change it again when I get back to the UK in about 15k km's and see how it looks. As always, really appreciate having your knowledge on hand for these...

Metal filings on plug during diff oil change

Hi all, Just changed the rear diff oil and found some pretty big metal filings on the magnetic plug. see photo. Is this normal, or something to worry about? It had a new ARB diff locker installed 2 years ago, so not sure if its normal wearing in. N

    100 Series Stalling at Altitude

@David I tried to buy one of these for my 105 before our Southern Africa trip (Lesotho) and the Pan Am trip, but it seems that you can't buy them separately. Either your engine comes with one out of the factory, or it doesn't. I tried to get one from Toyota and hit a brick wall. I might be...

Thoughts about this rear diff oil leak

Thanks guys. I thought as much, but its always nice to have someone agree, especially when so far from home. I guess the old adage 'oil is like blood, a little bit looks like a lot' is especially true when travelling N

Thoughts about this rear diff oil leak

Hi all, Having a bit of an oil leak from the rear diff. I'm guessing its the oil seal that's gone. We're currently touring around the US and down to Central America, probably got another 10k miles until we ship home. The question is, if I keep the rear diff oil level filled, can I run like...

Truckasaurus - an 80 series living in London

Welcome Gareth, Nice looking truck, and great thread. Just to check re. sourcing parts etc, have you heard of Amayama.com https://www.amayama.com/en Its a great way of getting parts that aren't available elsewhere. Takes a while and allow for customer import costs etc. I think parts should be...

    1HZ or 4.5 V8

I've got a 1hz in my 105. Its true that's its bloody slow, but its simplicity is a big win if you are going to be driving in remote places. It all depends what you are going to be doing with it. If you can get one with the altitude compensator then that would be good, although they are hard to...

ARB Twin compressor stopped working - Fixed

Well, I'm rather embraced to write this.... but in the hope that maybe one day it'll help someone else.... Obviously the first thing I checked was the fuses and the earths. They all seem good so I started looking for other issues. After some useful input from you guys, and hours spent thinking...

    Electrical gremlins - any thoughts

So a weird thing happened yesterday. We went through some quite deep water - not stupidly deep, but deeper than we would normally go through. Continued driving. Stopped to play in the creek (we're touring around the US at the moment). Drove. Stopped. Drove to the campsite. Stopped. Went to start...

    water Pump 1Hz motor

From memory the service manual says every 100k km, although I do mine every time I change the timing belt. What is the milage on the truck? And when was it last done? Like all preventative maintenance, it only costs you money and doesn't hurt to change it, so if you have the money, do it.

    Happy day today

I couldn't decide when I read your first post, but I thing @Shayne has a good suggestion - new thread, with link too old. Glad to see that 80 going to a good home. It's a good truck.

What a truck! Lucky you. Looking forward to watching this tread as you build up the truck. I honestly think they are one of the best overloading base vehicles you can buy. Enjoy.

Sounds good. Our truck is currently on the way to Texas, we'll fly out on the 11th July to meet it and spend 18 months on the Pan America, so maybe we'll bump into you guys on route somewhere???? Have you got EPA exemption letters etc sorted? N

    Check list…:

This is what I came up with for my first trip across Africa. On that trip I was regimental about checking everything. These days I don't follow it to the letter on long trips because I'm more familiar with the car, but it'll act as a starter for 10. I've also got a spreadsheet for service...

ARB Twin compressor stopped working - Fixed

it's a good thought, but just to be sure I checked every wire on the switch and none of them had 12V in them. hum, that's actually a really good call. I have it hooked up to the cigarette lighter wire (I've removed the cigarette lighter so the circuit isn't overloaded). Unfortunately the tuck...

ARB Twin compressor stopped working - Fixed

Morning all, As the title says - my ARB twin air compressor has stopped working. I used it to inflate all 4 tyres from deep sand pressure to tar pressure like I have many times over the last few months without a problem. Drove to campsite, went to use the air gun and the compressor wouldn't...

Hi Vulkyn, Welcome to the forum. This is definitely the place to learn about Land Cruiser! When I first joined 8 years ago after a chance meeting with @Chris in Tesco car park I knew nearly nothing about Land Cruisers. Over the years I've ask questions, read posts and slowly built up my...

    Crypto Overlanding

I like Cypto. Its almost certainly the future in some guise or another, although unlikely to be anything like the form it's in now. Crypto now is akin to the internet mid 90's, or mobile phones in 2000. There is a lot of development to go, but at some point in the future we will all learn to...

AC belt idler pulley on Amayama

Hi all, Idler pulley is starting to wear a bit, so want to get a new one before we ship to the USA to start the pan America. But for the life of me I can't find it on the Toyota-epc-general-data. Its not with the v-belts so must be with the air conditioning (or maybe somewhere else entirely)...

    An unusual Land Cruiser

Just saw this at a camp site we are staying in. Never seen one like it before. Not sure if it left the factory like this, but its very bloody well done, so if its a custom project its been done by someone who knows what they are doing. Would make an excellent base vehicle for a camper conversion...

Brake Pipe / Line Specs & any potential upgrades??

TBH the braided lines that I imported have been excellent, and certainly make a difference compared to rubber hoses, so for me they were well worth the expense. Alternatively get some Toyota ones imported on Amayama?

Why is oil coming from here?

Hello all, Just got the tappet cover gasket replaced by a Toyota Garage down here in Namibia. Since it's been done I've noticed a small amount of oil coming from the hose that connects the tappet cover with the air intake (blue arrows in the below photos). I had always assumed that they were...

Brake Pipe / Line Specs & any potential upgrades??

I haven't read the above posts, so apols if I'm out of sync. I replaced my brake lines a while ago with braided ones and it was a f**king nightmare. I went to HEL who said they could do it, and after waiting for months and loads of messing around they sent them to me and they wouldn't fit...
