    First breakdown - no drive!

Well then folks the old land cruiser is all fixed! No mechanicing points for me though as It turned out to be one of the front drive shafts. Good as it was a quick and relatively cheap fix. Still a bit confused by the back wheel spinning when I jack it up!?!?

    First breakdown - no drive!

No rear diff lock on lc4. That’s a good point though, I believe the centre diff was locked although the ignition was off so no sure if that makes a difference to the lock working or now. In drive, I jacked up each corner individually both front had ever so slight movement but definitely...

    First breakdown - no drive!

Just been and jacked it up. One of the rears spins freely.

    First breakdown - no drive!

Thanks for all the replies guys. I'll have a good inspect of the drive shaft and cv etc, I'm no expert but I could probably tell if something is broken. If I jack up one wheel at a time and find one spinning freely when in gear that would indicate a broken cv I guess. I shall have a word...

    First breakdown - no drive!

Result!! She moves when the diff is locked. Thanks guys. Next question is can I drive it to the garage like that? I know diff lock on tarmac is a big no no. Is it called wind up as the wheels can’t move freely when cornering, if that makes sense. Resulting in all manner of bad things...

    First breakdown - no drive!

Thanks both you guys. Thats one thing I didn't try, I'll give the diff lock a go tomorrow and see what happens.

    First breakdown - no drive!

Hi All, So today my trusty old land cruiser broke down  Its an 05 plate 120 lc4 5 speed auto. On about 140K Started her up, into drive all fine. Set off and after a couple of meters I heard a light clonk from underneath, then a couple more meters further on the drive went. The car was...

    Bit far, but thanks anyway.

    Does your AC work?

Can anyone recommend a company in Mid Sussex?

    Does your AC work?

Interesting, thanks. They most definitely didn't go round with a leak detector. Just hooked it up and pressed some buttons on the machine, that was it. Looks like I need to find a good local AC guy!

    Does your AC work?

Can't see that pipe you mention, I'm guessing that's for the rear air con in the LC5?
  12. J

    Does your AC work?

Since having it regassed last summer I kept the AC on all the time through the winter, but come summer time it's blowing hot air. I'll be honest I've no idea about the dye. Last time it was done at ATS I hung around and watched them do it. Took about an 1 or so. Hooked up to one of those...

    Does your AC work?

Many thanks for this. Unfortunately I'm near Brighton in Sussex, bit far to go. Might give him a ring for advice though.
  14. J

    Does your AC work?

Mines an LC4 so no rear vents. Might have a go at chasing the pipe work to see if anything obvious.

    Does your AC work?

What's the air con like in your 120? Had mine regassed twice in as many years. Gave up this year, so it's a case of all windows open and sweat in this heat! Both times it was regassed they said the system was fine, all pressure tested on the special machine. The first time it was done the guy...

    Low speed - wrong gear??

Just a thought......It's not the 1500rpm vibration from the air box inlet? Though this happens in all gears. Link to thread with fix. https://www.landcruiserclub.net/community/threads/annoying-vibration-at-1500-rpm.143944/

Not good!!! 120 tow bar wiring

All fixed and working now:) They call the part a blinker detection unit. Plus I found the cause; water. I pulled the trim apart to have a good look and found a very tiny bit of water. It had been coming in though the little rubber switch bit which turns the boot light on and off when...

Not good!!! 120 tow bar wiring

Thanks for all the advice guys. Phoned the local Toyota dealer (uckfield) this morning, most unhelpful. First he said it wasn't a genuine Toyota part! Well it most definitely is! Said I would have to buy a new wiring harness for 90 odd quid just for the relay. Thanks but no thanks. Phoned...

Not good!!! 120 tow bar wiring

I think it is some sort of relay. I'm not sure the 120 is canbus? When I fitted it about 3 years ago I was going to just splice into the rear wires but thought it would be better and easier to buy the proper wiring harness. It's been fine up-to today.

Not good!!! 120 tow bar wiring

Trouble is most places are closed till the new year. Why do these things always happen at the worst possible time!

Not good!!! 120 tow bar wiring

All the lights work fine apart from the indicators. I had to disconnect part of the towbar wiring and plug them back in directly. So at least I can drive it now. See attached for wiring of the towbar.

Not good!!! 120 tow bar wiring

Merry Christmas everyone, hope you're all having a nice relaxing boxing day. I was........ This burnt out this morning! It's part of the towbar wiring. Drove about 10 miles this morning. Parked up, came back 15 minutes later to put something on the boot and was greeted with a nasty...

    Spare wheel cover lock seized

Well I got the cover off by squeezing it in just enough to unclip the latch. Tyre was slightly deflated which helped. I also managed to remove the lock from the latch mechanism , will leave it to soak to see if I can free it up.

    Spare wheel cover lock seized

Morning all, The lock has seized up on the spare wheel cover, it's the metal band type one which latches round. The key goes in but won't turn. I sprayed with wd last night but still no luck this morning. I last had it off a couple of years ago, I should have kept it oiled! Any tricks to...

    AC not working

Hello All, Where abouts in the engine bay is the AC unit? Last summer I had it re gases. Now i can't quite remember what the guy said......something about it not working and they had to giggle something and then it worked. It worked perfectly last summer and I'm pretty sure it's been...

    Touchscreen system in a 120

Why don't manufacturers stick to a standard double din size! I didn't realise they were different. I used a wired camera. Fairly easy to route the cable. Had to drill hole for cable in the door behind the plastic number plate mount. Managed to get the cable through the existing flexible pipe...

Auto folding mirrors on the 150

Any idea if the same kit would work on a 120? Description states 2010-2015 models. Can't find one for a 2005 model. Also can it be wired to only fold when double locking i.e pushing the key fob lock button twice?

    Indicatator flashing rapidly

Thanks StarCruiser. I'll go round and check all the bulbs later. Yes I do have towbar electrics which I fitted using the Toyota wiring harness, so has proper connectors.

    Indicatator flashing rapidly

No led bulbs anywhere. I think it's a bad earth somewhere. The problem went away since my last post, but funnily enough it did it again last week.

    Clonk - window- wonky.

Morning all, When I opened the drivers side window this morning something went clonk, then it sounded like something fell to the bottom of the door. Now when I open the window it goes down wonky! It does seem to shut OK though. It's always made a bit of a clonk noise when winding it up and...

Worth getting a 120, and if so which one?

    I stand corrected :eusa-naughty:

Worth getting a 120, and if so which one?

Only the top spec lc5 120 has the air suspension, plus it has integrated satnav and heating controls which makes it impossible to swap the sat nav. I purposely went for the lc4 model when I got mine a couple of years ago, no air suspension to go wrong plus I easily swapped out the old radio/CD...
