    Positioning

A general question. I found it very hard to position myself while working on #6 injector for example or the nuts at the back of the intake? What's the normal approach to positioning oneself for the above work? I found myself sitting on the cross member at the radiator with my legs straddled...

    injector nozzle removal

Cheers nr. I'm still a little miffed at the way my truck is driving after my injector and intake work. Even with the tunit at 8 she's not pulling like she used to. Odd. All I can think is that the specialists didn't service the injectors correctly. The nozzles were replaced and looked very good...

    Suspension bushes, drop links etc

Ha! Mr. T measuring the pressure. Don't make ma laugh. Most, make that all, of the garages that I have contacted within 50 mile radius either don't want to know or haven't a clue or both. Re: the TBar marking, I just used a very small drill bit flat against the adjustment bolt and scratched...

Post intake cleanup and injector nozzles

Hi All, I did what in my books is a fairly big job but turned out to be pretty straight forward and has given me confidence to do more on the engine side. The truck is a completely different animal to drive. Much quiter on cold starts, more power on low down revs, much different in power...

    Suspension bushes, drop links etc

Hi, Make sure you release the tension from the T-Bar at the adjustment arms. I marked mine to help when re-attaching. If you're taking off the t bars and working on the shockers you could think about take ing the lower control arm off and replace the ball joints. It's easy enough if you have...

    injector nozzle removal

I add pics by loading them up to photobucket or similar. Then you get the url from photobucket and paste it in here. I'd be interested in finding out whether your pump quitens down after you've worked on it. It's the single noisiest item in my engine bay. I'm loath to go near the pump due to...

    injector nozzle removal

Well, I got my truck back together this evening after an intake overhaul and injector service. There's a huge difference in the tone of the engine at idle and when driving. Gone is the awful rattling when cold. It sounds like a new car inside the cabin! Peformance wise I'm feeling about 5% more...

Hi All, Looking for a solution trying to get the last nut on the inlet manifold nearest the bulkhead. I can get a socket onto it but can't get the ratchet on to the socket. I also don't seem to be ableto get hold of a flexible extension bar but I'll keep loooking tomorrow. Any suggestions...

    tapping noise

I got a call this morning from the crowd in Dublin that I dropped them off to. They said that the nozzles were prettly badly clogged up. Indeed by sight they looked pretty scruffy. They've quoted 75 Eur a pop for new Denso nozzles and springs. Bit expensive imo but I'm looking forward to feel...

    Gaskets etc

I'm normally not one for renewing gaskets or washers if they look good. I'm currently working on the injectors and intake. Off the to top my head I have the following: - - 7 x gaskets on the nozzle leak pipe - 1 x cylinder cover rubber gasket - 6 x injector seat gaskets - 6 x injector O rings...

    tapping noise

I'm in deep. Got the injectors out, the intake manifold is coming off today. Guess what - I think I found the source of the noise....... I was wondering where that maglite went  Found it up against the bulk head near the brake flid resevoir. What a knob. Anyway, glad I took the...

    tapping noise

Thanks Jon. I think I'll go for it anyway. Can't do any harm. I'm always reluctant to take the cylinder cover off. I can yank at t/bars, control arms etc 'til the cows come home but under the rocker is a dark art to me .... Here goes ....

    tapping noise

Hi All, I've got a worsening tapping/clicking noise audible in the cabin under moderate acceleration. Its not presistent at cruising speeds no matter what rev. Nor is it audible under heavy acceleration. It's a weird one. I've got 93k miles on the clock. Timing belt done done at 73. I'm...

    Spheres

Hi, Thanks for the tip - I'll check. All new Toyo original. I'm not concerned about it though. It probably does explain the harsh ride from the back though.

Thanks again Jon. I've noticed the back jumping out sometimes around bends when I hit a bump. Nothing serious though.

    Smooth Shutdown

Hi All, Thought I'd share this. I just replaced my intake shutter because the diaphragm was shot. Well, the end result is no more engine management light but more satisfyingly the engine shuts down instantly and much much more smoothly. Previously it would shake the car left to right several...

    Slop/Slap

Hi there, I saw the thread on tloc and I think I would get some reduction in slap if I renewed more bushings. I've replaced the mount arm on the front diff and it gave a slight improvement. The biggest improvement to date has been with the TC overhaul but not sure how that may have helped...

    Slop/Slap

Hi All, One the niggles that I've been slowly trying to diagnose over the past year is the slop in the drivetrain. When applying throttle from a coast I can get a moderate to severe slap depending how aggressive I am with the pedal. Happily for the car I am light of foot. However, it's bugging...

    The troublesome TC

I got my TC rebuilt recently via JulianV's place. There's a noticeable difference in take off and Julian's guys did a wonderful job at putting it back together. I now even have smoother movement of the shifter.

    Lower ball joint

Why Thank you ;) I'm currently running without 1 circlip. I decided to let the weight of the car push the joints into position after I applied some initial pressure. It took a few trips over a particularly bad dip in the road with the ahc set to soft to get her to hit the bump stop. Joint 95%...

    Lower ball joint

Few pics The old Ball Joint installed: - The separator applied: - Popped (applied pressure with the tool then a helpful whack to the very bottom): - In the press: - All cleaned up: - I have both sides back on now and just need to reinstall the Tbars and torque the ball joint nut. I'm...

    Lower ball joint

Yeah. It's the lower one. Thanks for the tip Jon. I got it done. I ground down my scissor separator to fit the taper and that combined with some upward force as you suggest split the joint nicely. Pressed out handy too with my shiny new press. I have the drivers side back ogether more or less...

    Lower ball joint

... Actually, scratch that. Looking at it Putting downward force on the lower arm via the tbar just pushes the joints together no? As you can see from the pic that I've been a classic dick and wrecked the threads too with too much persuasion of the solid variety. I'm in this until its fixed...

    Lower ball joint

Hello again Gents, I had a stab at the job yesterday evening. Got the Tbars off, the lower shocker bolt out, the linky off and the ball joint nut off. The joint refuses to split however. I have a separator but it's too small. What's the best investment for this job? One of those claw things...

I'll check out i8hmud so :) To be honest I'm coming out of BMW mode and back into cruiser mode. Rebuilt the suspension and steering on my 8 series since coming back from Julian's with my cruiser. Bought myself a compressor so the work should be nice and quick now. Will take pics and write up...
