Vehicle insurance outside the EU? And breakdown cover?

Slovenia and Croatia are part of EU, does UK insurance really not cover these countries? Anyway, when you enter a country that is not covered by your insurance policy, you can usually buy a tourist insurance policy right at the border or if this is not possible, in the first town. In Slovenia...

I need some manufacturer's specifications for my HDJ80: - body dimensions - weight - GVW - max weight per axle fromt/rear - max trailer weight I've serached the repair manuals I have but haven't found those info. Maybe an owner's manual is the right source (haven't got one)? Ideas as to where...

    Hello from Vrecha ...

The editorial board of Toyota trails magazine kindly allowed me to publish a pdf of my article (about our first miles of Western Sahara overlanding, back in 2011) free on the web, now that the next issue of Toyota trails is out. -> You can get a copy here. <-

    Hello from Vrecha ...

Whitelaning - more accurate word indeed, I'll remember that. But this was not filmed this winter (a little snow here so far), this video I found in the archive. Still time to receive a decent package of snow - February is usually the most generous month regarding this. "Let it snow, let it...

    HDK C/V joints

I can confirm that HDK's with a ABS ring fit into older models' hubs. I can confirm (regardless of what happens tomorrow :-) ) that I apparently won a lottery and got a pair oh good HDK's from Milner. One overheated quite a bit in October 2013 (remember?) and is still going strong. Well, maybe...

Velebit overland tour - autumn 2014

In the 90's and early 2000's there were still many unknown minefields and we that worked or migrated there took extreme caution as stumog described. Today's a bit different in most of Croatia. Bosnia though, especially some remote rural regions, is another story altogether. Locals cannot go in...

Velebit overland tour - autumn 2014

The minefields are clearly marked in most areas that are interesting for overlanders. But anyway, I stick to a very conservative approach - no walking outside the well-trodden paths in the areas that are potentially problematic. There are vast areas that are known they were never mined, though...

Velebit overland tour - autumn 2014

Usually, the mid autumn (and late spring) are the best times to visit this area. Summer can be unbearably hot, especially on southern slopes, while during the winter many old passes are impassable with vehicles. But it is always a bit of a gamble with the weather. One week ago the weather was...

Velebit overland tour - autumn 2014

Just returned from S-adventure Velebit tour that we organized past week. Due to the extremely bad weather forecast, only a small group of enthusiasts that have past experiences with bivouacking in snow covered and bura wind combed mountains of Velebit was gathered. Travelling with one vehicle...

HaHa, they are still ok compared to Grimaldi lines Livorno (Italy) - Tanger Med that I use regularly (every year for past four years). Once I experienced a 5 hour delay at embarking and other time the ferry was delayed for 8 hours on arrival. But it also happens from time to time that they...

    Waterproofing/preserving a roof tent cover

Granger's Fabsil did a very good job on a 30 year old small tent that I still use occasionally. The waterproofing was regained, but breathability diminished ... a bit of trade-off, but a reasonable one.

    Back pain caused by driving

I usually don't have any problems with my back, but there was cca one month period last year during which every time I was driving for more than three hours I got really ugly pain in the lower part of my spine, so much that it kept me nearly immobile for two or three days (i walked with great...

Overland tools list - for general & specific tasks

I didn't want to encourage a practice of leaving tools at home. Just investing in learning first. With knowledge how to use your tools you surely won't leave tools at home. Overland tools list - for general & specific tasks

Many good suggestions are already written above, pry bar and two hammers as yogi said are items that are often left at home but are really useful (putting a steel rim back to shape with one hammer? - good luck :-) ) Just my thoughts on 54 mm socket - I used to carry it with me, I put it on use...

So ... preparing our HDJ81 for the next season in Sahara (and incoming Summer in Slovenia), I would like to replace the AC condenser. The old one still holds the pressure, but it's a kind of miracle that it does, judging from its appearance. Toyota stelaership of course offered me an offer I...

Do you think this is racist?

I completely agree with the opinion clivehorridge has expressed. Generalizations usually steer into racist direction. Hello from Vrecha ...

Now, at the end, I can say we carried everything we needed plus a bit more. :-) This "everything we needed" part is what we are a little proud of, as the selection of the equipment was a fruit of cca 10 years of overlanding experience. We made the "furniture" for the vehicle, it was equipped...
