So ... preparing our HDJ81 for the next season in Sahara (and incoming Summer in Slovenia), I would like to replace the AC condenser. The old one still holds the pressure, but it's a kind of miracle that it does, judging from its appearance.

Toyota stelaership of course offered me an offer I could only refuse. :icon-biggrin:

So I'm asking around where to source a reasonably priced replacement.

AC is the older, R22 system, the part number is 88460-60060 according to the ToyoDIY. It doesn't have to be brand new, a reasonably preserved and tested used one will also do for a reasonable price.

Any ideas welcome.

Interested to know what you where quoted as I was told £247 for the condenser and £40 for the dryer, you should replace both at the same time.

397 EUR + 22% TAX for condenser.
They'll give me a 3% discount because I'm regular (but not frequent) customer. :icon-biggrin:

I converted mine to the more modern r134 without a problem, just got adaptors fitted to the in and out ports on the compressor/pump,vacummed out any residual oil and refilled.Working fine in 30 or more degrees. Bought an aftermarket condenser for about 90 or 100 euro (I forget, but just put the part number into google and found it, but is a rough one, it had to be made fit!! Will probably replace with a better one.

Replaced mine today on the green one. Did the grey one a couple of weeks back too. Picked up a condenser for £75. Dead easy to fit. Drier was £25 This was on a 93 plater.

Where from Chris?? I think I am doing mine next weekend.

Just had to do my condenser again, the previous one only lasted 3 years and I paid a lot more than that!

I paid £150 in 2007 for a new condenser from a local aircon specialist. In Nov 2010 the aircon packed up again so I went back to the same place and it turned out the condenser had gone. It had corroded on the joint/seam between the end tanks and the cooling matrix on either side. You could see the white corrosion, probably due to salt water. Even though it was out of warranty they gave me £30 of a replacement. Before fitting this one I painted the end tanks and the seam with black engine enamel and it's been fine since with no sign yet of any corrosion. The guy at the shop said it was the same part that would've been supplied by a Toyota dealer but a local dealer had quoted me a much higher price. Wether that's true or not I don't know.

Tnx for suggestions.
I decided for an aftermarket solution at a price similar to what Chris payed.
We'll see ... I'm not expecting it to survive next 22 years as the original did.
