Evening Gents I’m looking for advice I’m looking to replace my g350d which is my daily driver , there’s nothing taking my fancy apart from a new model G400d which are out of my league, what are the drawbacks to a 76 series mpg , insurance etc ? Thanks in advance

One of these is a luxury vehicle, the other is a truck.

Trust me a g350d is not really a luxury vehicle hard bumpy ride not dripping in comfort looks are one thing reality is another

Hello. I’d say the biggest downside of the 76 (or any Toyota) over the G is the interior design and materials. IMO the Japanese are very poor at interiors. They are functional, a mass of plastic and velour and very outdated. If you can live with that then I can’t think of any other disadvantage. I’m not sure how the performance compares, assuming you are looking at the V8 diesel? The 1GR petrol is lovely, MPG is about 20-30 depending on driving and vehicle set up, plenty of power. The 70 series 5 speed gearbox is a little ‘old fashioned’ but nothing wrong with it.

The Land Cruiser is super reliable and parts when you do need them are easily available around the world and I would think cheaper than for the G.

What's the intended use?

Do you use it as simply as a car replacement i.e. could you replace it with a "normal" car and still do what you need to do? Or do you have a specific use case that needs a large 4x4?

If it's the former, then the G400d would take my vote. If the latter, the '76 would be a sure winner.

Personal choice , test drive both and the correct answer should be obvious .

More of a plastic and vinyl man myself these days ...

On the topic of Gelandewagens, if you like utility and rare what's the market/availability like for non-bling base spec models? Always wondered.

On the subject of mpg, if the '76 under consideration has the 4.0 litre petrol engine, if you have reliable long term autogas supplies convenient for you then there's plenty of room underneath for an LPG tank or two.

Not sure on how young or old you are considering, but assuming its to be used in the UK isn't there a serious problem getting such a vehicle under 10 years old certified for registration in the UK, or am i talking out me backside as usual.

As for interiors, yes the 76 is old fashioned simple and practicle, apart from the plastic moulding across the steel painted dash panel the pics i've seen of 76 interiors look little changed from my '93 regd 70 series, and none the worse for that.
Insurance wise, presumably it'll be a grey import so in the hands of specialist insurers, VED wise as a grey better than a UK regd vehicle...so far...but anyone's guess what our elected dicatators have planned for us plebs.
