Hey Guys,

Just need a bit of advise.

I am currently in Canterbury and need to get out for some time. I get out of lectures next week from monday to friday and really need to sleep in a Tent for sometime.
I am thinking about going out alone for 2-3 nights. Get some work done out there as well.

Is there anywhere that you can suggest to me, nearby or even in Wales where I can go and camp alone.......

I am planning to leave on sunday. I would really appreciate the help.

Cheers

The New Forest is nice at the mo.
Or down in Hamble, Southampton is a good campsite, had my caravan there when i was moving house. Next to a marina and the beaches, plus a great little village for pubs etc.

If you are set on Wales, there is a very good Forestry Commission camp site  just a mile or so north of Beddgelert on the A498 I think  in Snowdonia. I used to use it regularly a few years ago. it has showers, toilets and washing machines and of course there is fantastic scenery in Snowdonia and some nice pubs :obscene-drinkingdrunk: in Beddgelert, the Prince Llewellen and the Royal Goat to name but two.

Hmm..

Now it starts to get complicated.....tooo many choices ;)

I am going to make the trip alone....mainly to get some work done and to clear my head. The forest sounds great. Is it possible to wild camp or do you have to camp at specific sites?

You could probably wild camp on Strata for a week and not get moved on but most places you need to arrive late and leave early if you want to avoid attention. Must be lots of out of the way commercial sites that will be pretty deserted at this time of year though.

ive rough camped on strata a few times, and i learnt the first time, not to camp to close to the water......................

because the midges at night are horrendous!

this was in the summer though, so maybe things would be better now.

the second time we camped we camped in a disused quarry, which was a few hundred yards up one of the forest tracks, right in the middle of strata!
this was a much better location!

I have heard this is a nice place to stay, although I have never stayed myself.

Or

If you want a little more comfort you would find a quiet spot here, top quality heated shower block, WiFi and the local village of Llandovery is very nice IMO.

Well done Matt - I was trying to find reference to that site!!! Nav, you'd love it there if you're trying to get away from it all

Go for a climb up Tryfn (in the background) its a real scramble

Good luck

Just to add, Bets-y-coed is a pleasant place to hang out too - just down the round from here. There's a site in the town which we used to use a great deal but not quite off the beaten track like you are looking for...

That's just a few miles from the Forestry Commission site at Beddgelert, if one didn't suit you could try the other

Maybe a place for a good night out for ELCOC, the old / lazy ones could talk when drinking beers about if the others will make it back from Tryfn alive
