My Amazon air con is noisy when switched on . I have noticed when switched off its fine, I have checked the engine and can see what appears something connected to the belt (black plastic cover)starts to spin and straight away its noisy more so when engine is revved hard .Could this be a bearing problem on the air con pump? If this is what the belt is turning .The air con works fine hot and cold, any help advice chaps much appreciated.:cry:

does sound like the pump bearing if it's noisy when switched on rather than noisy when switched off which would most likely be the magnetic clutch bearing.

Thanks Jon,
I will price it up and probably wait till the weather improves before getting this done.

Just wondering having looked at the manual it says "CHECK THERE IS ABNORMAL METALLIC SOUND FROM THE COMPRESSOR WHEN THE A/C SWITCH IS ON.IF ABNORMAL METALLIC SOUND IS HEARD,REPLACE THE COMPRESSOR ASSEMBLY"
So reading this are they referring to all parts other than the compressor or the whole lot ? As looking at the diagram the component parts are:
compressor/stator (think this is the magnetic clutch with two wires)/snap ring/ rotor/snap ring and shims/pressure plate/and screw. and thats all the parts.
Any advice will be much appreciated...or has anyone had a go at this before.

they want you to change the whole compressor unit, not sure if you can get the bearings on its own from a bearing wholesaler. When the mag clutch bearing is failing it makes a noise when the aircon is off.

The idler bearing is not in use when the aircon pump is turning so any other noise from the pump in this mode they consider is not repairable. I would have thought it possible to get pump parts from a specialist but not Toyota.

When the aircon is off the pump is not turning, but the idler bearing is. If this is noisy I would have thought it could be replaced fairly easily. Bearing stockists might be able to help, if not an aircon specialist both to avoid Toyota prices.

So Frank in my case its only noisy when the air con is on....so would I be right it must be the clutch then? As the bearing is constantly turning and the only noise heard is when clutch engaged ie air con on..... then stops when i switch it off

Yes I agree with Jon. The clutch and bearing are locked up solid with the air con pump turning.

So it may be a bearing inside the compressor or something else inside the compressor.
