ATF gearbox leak

I was under the car yesterday checking things and noticed an ATF leak from the nearside engine/gearbox join. I was wondering if it could be fixed with a clean and sealant from the outside?
I'll post a pic when its on the ramp.

I put that in a leaky diff years ago the night before driving from the UK to Romania and back , its never leaked since .
