Auto Aircon

Was driving home tonight and noticed that when i hit the auto button on the aircon it switches to the vents on the console rather than the ones i wanted it on which was feet and windscreen.

Is there a way of changing the default to something else or am i stuck with vents on console?

From my experience albeit not on a LC, the "Auto" climate control setting takes a range of values, probably like outside temp, cabin temperature, sunlight etc. and then provides optimum airflow that matches those conditions. At least it did in my experience.

My previous car, I had the climate control set to Auto 365 days a year and it would change the airflow accordingly. It was especially apparent in Winter when the airflow was almost always set to "demist", whereas in Summer it would change to various positions.
