Folks,
There's a big upgrade coming soon to a screen near you
The platform I use for this forum is now getting a bit old and lumpy and lacks in the latest and greatest features. So, to keep up with the times and bring new features I've decided to take the plunge and upgrade everything. "Why?" I hear you cry.
Some of the reasons:
The last time we changed platforms was sadly just before the announced end-of-life for the software I had just bought! They new version of their software was not included in the license so there was no room for me to move. I refused to purchase another license from them. In hindsight, this was a good thing because their new version was pretty grim and would have been a waste of money. There are also vulnerabilities in the software which keep being found and patches and updates for them are slow to come from the company.
So, after many years or playing along with this version I took the plunge last week and bought a new platform and a whole bunch of add-ons for it.
For the last week or so I've been setting it up on the side, out of the way of all the normal day-to-day goings on and it's almost ready. I thought I would add a bit of a preview so that it's not a total shock when you log on in the morning and see something a bit unexpected

The Lounge (forum view)
Front page viewed on a phone (fully featured (aka responsive), adjusts to fit the phone / tablet)
The PM page
I am still in the process of getting it all setup and working as smoothly as I can so it'll be a few days yet before you get a real glimpse of it. I am trying to make sure that all the main features are there before I cut over. I might have finished it if Tony had not dragged me out t the pub last night until silly-o'clock. Or was it me who dragged him out? Head is still fuzzy....
The interruption during cut-over should be minimal. I'll give a bit of a heads-up before I switch over. You'll see a holding page while it's happening and all being well, you'll eventually see the new forum and all it's glory.
Right, can't think of much more to add at this point.
Comments and suggestions on a postcard

Some of the reasons:
- More user friendly interface.
- Latest features and internet standards
- Mobile-friendly (It is a dream to use on your phone / tablet etc)
- Much easier to upload and manage pictures.
- A very good image gallery.
- Faster loading times.
- A busier community developing tools and add-ons for it.
- A better, more advanced search function (Laz... oh Laz....)
- Better user engagement.
- More secure.
- Many more under-the-covers benefits - some of which will be noticed, some will not.
