Hello all,

How do I stop my internet connection trying to connect to Twitter?

eg: Connecting to platform.twitter.com

In the bottom left side of my screen, when I load pages from other websites, my computer hangs, and waits for a while.

In China, Twitter is blocked, and no way will it ever connect.

Can I make the wait time zero, as if it just ignors the attempt to connect to twitter.
same for trying to connect to Facebook, and youtube

It just wastes my time while I know it is never going to connect in a month of Sundays.

Might work:
Assuming it's windows, Press (Hold) the Windows key and then R
paste this in: "notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" without the quotes.
at the bottom of the file, enter the following: "127.1.1.0 platform.twitter.com" again, without quotes.
Do the same for each site you want to block.

Save and close the file.

If you're using Windows 7, you might have a permission problem.

It won't make twitter work but it should shorten the time it takes to realise there is no connection as it will instantly connect to itself.

Hi Crispin,

Thanks for the suggestion.
I am using Vista.

I did all that, and saved the edited host file.
nb: this must be done when notepad is in Administration mode.

Unfortunatly, the damn "platform.twitter.com" is still trying to load, and causes me to sit and wait for about 10 seconds.

Any more ideas?

Here is a copy of my edited host file.
